Am I doing something wrong?

I put all my data into the system and said my goals were to lose 2 lbs. per week. The program then told me to keep to 1200 calories per day and in 5 weeks I will have lost 2.7 lbs. That doesn't really seem quite right. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

  • Its really hard for a website to predict weight loss. This website is really helpful, but every body is so different and their are so many variables to weight loss that it can't really make an accurate prediction for everyone. Just work toward the results you want and use the website to help track your calories and you should be just fine. :)

What's your current weight and height? If you're at or near a healthy bmi then the pounds will come off more slowly.

Well explained, best tip I can give you is follow it for 3 weeks keeping a close eye on your weight. If you lose to fast then simply add more calories so you lose at a healthy rate of 1lb per week, if not losing then reduce calories slightly.

Because according to the numbers you entered into MFP, you would have to eat less than 1k calories to lose 2lbs per week. Its a generally accepted rule to stay above 1200 unless advised by a doctor, that 1200 minimum blocked off a portion of the calories you are trying to not eat. Does this make sense? Let me think of another way to say this.

its programmed to never recommend less than 1200, to keep you out of starvation mode and if you are close to your goals and already small, losing weight is much harder and will require more time if you dont want to starve yourself

Thanks for all the tips. I'll keep close watch for a few weeks and see how it's going.

I tend to laugh at that "in five weeks time you will weigh... yadda yadda' if you continue to have a food day like this...
