Question 1:
I searched this and have found different guidelines or plans for the Couch 2 5k.. Which is the correct one? I don't guess it really matters. The one that starts with 60 second jogging is probably the one I will use. And that will be a challenge for me.

Question 2:
Any suggestions for a pair of shoes. I wear down shoes pretty fast. The pair I have now is Dr. Scholls and are about 6 wks old and are already broke down some. But I am not light on my feet. Should they be walking or running shoes?

  • Go to a running store, they will fit you for the right shoes based on how you run.

Get some running trainers. My feet were really sore from not wearing the right footwear x

1: I would stick to the original: http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml

It may be a challenge, but it is do-able, and you can tailor the speed with which you use the program. You don't have to finish in 9 weeks. Do it at your pace, and get your endurance up while improving your fitness level. Great stuff -- I've loved it.

2: I'm a big guy, and having some cushion is definitely helpful. There are lots of great articles out there about this topic. Try Google, and do your homework. You could check with a running shoe store, but keep in mind that they will be pretty pricey there. I've been okay with my $40 pairs now for some time.

If you are running at all, no matter what speed, then wear running shoes. I have good luck with Asics, but I went to a running specialty store and had them suggest a pair for me (which were the asics). I bought one pair there, and then found that a local department store has my shoes on clearance about every other month, so I buy them there now. Makes a huge difference in how easy it feels if you wear the right shoes!

Hi Tina - You DEFINITELY want to go to a running store and have them properly fit you for some running shoes.

As for Couch to 5k.. I used the one on Cool Running - http://www.coolrunning.com/index.shtml

Not sure if you're going to be using an iPod or mp3 player, but I use Robert Ullrey's podcast. http://www.c25k.com/podcasts.htm

Currently on Week 7 and loving it!

Good luck and remember to start off SLOW. It took me a few weeks for my body to get adjusted to the impact of running. I even did weeks 2 and 3 a couple times.

    Good luck with your run!
I swear by Adidas Supernova Glide shoes. I personally like Adidas products and the Supernovas have a lot of cushioning and bounce.
