Mmm I had Pizza for Breakfast this morning! YUM-O
I'd heard bits and pieces about using Pita type breads for pizza but never had tried it until last night for dinner and ahhh then I had it again for breakfast this morning:blushing: (yes, it's just THAT GOOD!) at like 5a.m before I started my day:laugh: What can I say, when I try out something healthy & new it's fun and exciting!
Here's my magic pizza as I call it, magic because I can't believe I waited this long to try it out, so simple but I just hadn't done it before.:blushing: Oh Silly Silly me:noway:
Ok so, good chance many of you have already done this but for me it's brand spankin new! So maybe someone besides myself has yet to try it.
*1 Full Pita sliced horizontally to create two pizzas (Whole Wheat pita, 7 grain, 12 grain or whatever you enjoy best, low carb works super!)
*veggies I used sauted green peppers and onions mmm..then you get that yummy smelll from them!
Pizza Sauce, I used about a dinnerware sized Tablespoon (not a measuring spoon, but the larger silverware spoon) on each pita 1/2.
*cheese, sprinkled a bit on each pizza after putting on the sauce and veggies
So colorful!
I stuck it under the broiler for just a couple minutes until the cheese bubbled just a tad.
POOF! My Magic Pizza comes to Life!
So I sliced up each Pita 1/2 into 4 slices and had that and a 1/2 glass of Yummy Vanilla Soy Milk for Breakfast.
So light and yummy perfect for any meal or snack.
Cals? You would want to figure it out on your own as I did it different each time...next time I may add a couple cut up slices of Pepperoni, or a small bit of Ground Turkey. But this time I used what I had so it was a sauted veggie one!
I spread the sauce over the entire pita's, probably didn't use but maybe a spoonful and a 1/2 on the two combined (hey, what can I say I was wingin' it! So I probably ever estimated my cals..oh well! Better a bit under than over I say:bigsmile: )

Just a thought to meditate on....
A BREAKFAST Pizza....
Using salsa, cheese, veggies, eggs, some type of "meat" (turkey sausage, veggie protein crumbles, etc)
Just a thought.0 -
the only pitas I can find are SUPER high in calories0

One thing I've found is checking over by the deli counter...they have flatbreads there that are called 'Flat-Outs' and are usually placed right next to some good Pita bread that isn't quite as high as the typical Pita Bread.
Here's the brand I find in the deli section at almost all the stores I checked at.
Toufayan Low-Carb Pita Bread

Ok, well the one I used this morning was from my other pkg. which is not low-carb and the cals are 173, but I'm sure the other info reflects differently because of the lower carbs. But I think 173 plus toppings is pretty great for a meal, with the right side it could easily be brought up to around 250-300 cals for the meal or snack.
I used to buy the Kangeroo brand and WOW, very pricey and much higher in nutrition facts than the one I currently use.
Good luck on the hunt Matty:bigsmile:

really? I find tortillas are higher in cals than pita. Pita is usually pretty comparable to basic bread.0 -

I'm all about trying new things out lately, just finished off a Whole Wheat tortilla wrapped around a banana with cashew butter spread across the whole thing, then rolled it up and had it with some soymilk. Yum and I'm onto some new things which I am delighted in, frankly I get tired of doing fish and chicken the same way and hadn't realized what a rut I'd gotten myself into until recently.
So any crazy zany combo's I'm up for ideas! Share away:flowerforyou:

The only tortillas I now buy are Whole Wheat ones and if I buy wraps it's the "Flat-Outs' Light type. Something for anyone to try out if you've not had a chance.

I love pita or flatbread pizzas! Another good brand is the Joseph's Flax and Oatbran pitas and Lavash breads (by the deli section w/ the other Flat-outs and other pitas at Super Wal*mart).
And... FC... I love a tablespoon of natural PB & banana rolled in a low-carb tortilla!! (I like the La Tortilla factory small ones for 50 cals & 8g fiber!). Yummy!
It's fun to try out new things, I know I get in a rut myself! :huh:0 -
my new MAGIC food is a tamtaxico whole grain tortilla, handful of baby lettuce, julliene carrots, chopped tomatoes, chopped onion and 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegarette.
If in the mood I add feta cheese, or chicken.
I am so SICK of salads.............found this makes it a bit easier to eat! All rolled up and yummy in the tummy!

For breakfast burritos I love to use spinach, mushrooms, and eggwhites and top with some salsa. Roll in tortilla, yummy! :bigsmile:0

pita pizzas rule
The whole wheat ones from TJs or Costco are good - comparable in nutrition to FC's.
I like to put a teensy bit of Costco's spinach artichoke parmesan dip on it, add mushrooms or peppers or more spinach, some garlic - the pizza idea lends itself to any toppings!.. Yummmm.0 -

Hmmm...mmmm...ahh I want to grab a jar of artichoke hearts and some spinach and whip one of those babies up! LIke an "Amy's" Pizza only not.
I agree..Pita pizza's do ROCK and you're right, any toppings sound like they would work just fine! I was Googling earlier in the day for the Nutrition info for Matty on the Pita Bread and came across a site I'll get back to...it had suggested adding PB and then some apples, bananas, a few sliced strawberries... so there ya go...another idea! Protein/Carb combo..perfect!

Im thinkin a little olive oil & minced garlic instead of red sauce then topping it with fresh spinach, diced chicken, sundried tomatoes. Add a little feta & a little fat free mozerella on top..... yum!!0

Lovin all these creative ideas guys:flowerforyou:0 -
Another thing that's good is italian sausage from the deli counter. It is so flavorful that you can mince up a single sausage and use it for several pizzas. Mmmmm....0

bumpin so I can track these ideas when I get back from the gym in a bit:drinker:0
