Financing Disney runs

I'm seriously contemplating doing the "Coast to Coast" challenge put on by the Disney Resorts for running a half or full marathon at each park in the same calendar year. These would be my first ever runs of this magnitude.

However, the cost of this challenge is pretty hefty! Not only is the registration fee over $100 for each race, but then I'd have to get 2 round trip flights, pay for hotels, food, etc.

Would it be weird/wrong/inappropriate to ask my boss for a company sponsor?? I would totally run decked out in company gear!

I would admire my job if they sponsor me!! Let me know how that goes. I'll have to prove to my boss[es] that I am very capable of doing this. I highly doubt it would be an option for me though.

Depends on what line of work you're in. There are sponsorships to be had, but they aren't the easiest to get and they involve a commitment, some more than others.

With that said, as someone who runs a lot of races and travels quite a bit for them, I wouldn't ever think of financing a race. If I can't afford it right then and there, I won't run it. And honestly, DIsney races are a lot of hype. There are a lot of smaller races that are cheaper and have an atmosphere that is just as fun!

That was my thinking... I just don't want to be out of line. But my boss is pretty cool, so I might go for it anyway. :)

I have never been a fan of people that get other people to pay for their fun, but if your company pays for things like that, why not? All they can do is say no.

I was just wondering how things tirade out with your boss? I ran at marathon weekend January 2011. We had friends and family plus local businesses sponsor us. We posted on Facebook during the race to keep them updated. We also did a story in the local newspaper and interviews on the radio. We ran in honor of those who were affected by cancer including my hubby. We only used the funds to pay the entry fees to the goofy challenge. We personally paid for the "fun" items (park tickets, airfare, etc....) we had a personalized shirt made that we wore during the race. I don't feel we were out of line for getting help with the fees (over $600) it was worth every dollar spent! I loved the event! I loved wearing the medals t the parks during the last couple days of our trip. I was so inspired from the weekend I went back for the wine & dine in October. We're also running the half and full in January hoping to get the coast to coast by running the half in September at disneyland. Good luck!

Think of it this way - the worst thing they can say is "no" and you're back where you started - but with one less "what if" on your list.

    How does that sound? :)
