I have a few friends on MFP who are nice, supportive and doing well in general on the site. They however are also selling ( in many different forms) baked goods online and posting it on MFP to their friends. Even offering MFP discounts in some cases. Now I am all for making a buck doing what you love, but It is kinda ( but maybe not as drastic as) selling drugs at a rehabilitation clinic. Some offer healthier options but for the most part their general merchandise is cakes, cookies cupcakes and things like that. I am having a hard time being able to say " aw good for you" without thinking that they are in some ways sabotaging their friends in order to utilize a demographic that some in the same business would not know to or know about. Even if they don't buy directly, some people just seeing things like this would set them back. I know you can just unfriend someone but, my question is , is it responsible for them to sell things like that , that would hinder not help on THIS site to these people?

I also know that some people believe in the " in moderation" mantra. I however feel that when you have so many things " in moderation" they tend to add up. You should choose wisely your vice and moderate that and cut the rest. for example mine is chocolate I only have it once a month and it is only one bar. I know it is not the practice of everyone but, even when consumers from the site believe they can have it sparingly should the venders be able to promote and advertise on this site?

I am a bit confused here. When you fit these things into your calorie count and macros, why is having them more then once a month bad?

Really you aren't supposed to be promoting/selling anything on this site, but eh xD These people aren't forcing you to buy anything though. You can go to a grocery store that has a bakery and skip over it, so you should be able to do the same over internet baked goods

Some people do fit them in, and some just say " oh I can have this it will be fine" and don't necessarily regard the calories or know what the nutritional facts are. So when you do that a few times a week even it can sometimes hinder your progress. I just put it in there becasue some would say anything in moderation is fine but, it is not my question that's all. More of a clarifying point I guess?

And yes I thought about that i have someone who sells shakeology on here and I never feel like I have to buy but, shakology is used in weight loss for some. like I sad if you know someone is an addict would you sell things in front of them for others to enjoy and can wright about enjoying where others could see and not expect them to at some point even feel the cravings? Is that itself right? I mean on any other site FB whatever I would care less and you would be hands down right. I don't have to buy but, on a site where some people are getting over eating disorders or changing their eating habits, trying to change is it right to advertise things like that? Especially when ALL of the people I have on my feed selling those things only started after they Friend me , nothing on there profiles suggested what they would be doing so not really giving someone the opportunity to say " ya know "no" becasue you are selling such and such and that might make it harder for me to reach my goals".

there are also people on here who are trying to put weight on... they should be allowed to buy cakes to up their daily cals!
  • Oh okay clarification makes sense! I thought you meant treats were bad even if you hit your macros and stay under your calorie goal. Yes I agree that you should always log! Stuff will add up for sure :]

Sounds like you have a lot of people tempting you then? I think that you should clean out your friends list a bit :] I think some have more will power and don't mind the posts yet others will. I am a good cook and can make light versions of about anything, so something like that wouldn't bother me. Some struggling will have a different point of view. I think the best thing to do is to get rid of the temptations. Just like someone on here with an eating disorder unfriending users that are still promoting it:flowerforyou:
