This may be a dumb question that has been asked before, but i'm going to ask anyway.

Does it matter if i go over my carbs, fats or proteins but don't go over my calorie count?

Can someone please explain...

Short answer: No. But if you continually neglect protein and fat you could have body composition issues or various health related issues.
  • I wondered the same thing, I didnt pay attention to anything other than calories when I first started. So thought I was doing great, but then my weight loss stuck really bad and realised it was due to ignoring these factors.

So I think its very important to meet your protein and fibre goals, and try not to go over carb, sugar and fat too much. At least I think thats right... is it?
  • But I find I'm so hungry/dizzy/almost nauseated if I don't eat enough protein at each meal. No matter how many calories, I can't stay below MFP recommended protein for the day. Is it possible the protein recommendations are too low for some people?

    You can customize your goals/percentages.
I changed mine to 25% Carbs/ 45% Protein/ 30% Fat. That puts me at roughly (very roughly) 1g/lb of protein and .3g/lb of fat.

I actually look at the total grams of protein and fat rather than the percentages. I try to get at least 190 g of protein and 60 grams of fat per day. The rest takes care of itself.

umm that sounds great but the reason i asked is cos i have no idea of how much protein or carbs is good. I'v been told that i should not worry about calories in food but carbs as in 5grams carbs per 100grams of food...

You absolutely should pay attention to the calories in your food but you also want to make sure you're getting sufficient protein and fat. One of the many general guidelines is 1 gram of protein and 0.3 grams of fat per pound of lean body mass. EIther way, if you're trying to lose fat you need to maintain a calorie deficit.
