Quantity not quality

I just wanted to say, I don't have a problem with those who eat more or less. It's hard for me to sit back and see all the people on here (even with experience) TELLING (almost in a demanding way) that you HAVE TO eat more. I did this with exercise and gained weight because my body is different. It's not about more calories (wich I see allot of, "You need to eat MORE) it's about quality. No problem with suggestion, such as, "I suggest" or "this is what works for me" But there sure is allot of telling advise from people who are NOT doctors. Just saying let your experience for you speak for itself. If you demand change for a person and it doesn't work for them there are consequences. Vent over. That's all I have to say and BTW I dont have a problem with women who eat more> I think Its great. The way suggested always made me gain weight but believe me if I could I totally would. I envy those who can eat more and not gain. Thank you for reading and be blessed.

Oh silly woman! Don't you know that if it works for one person it works for EVERYONE???

And if you don't eat back your exercise calories, clearly you are unhealthy and anorexic.

I eat ALOT of food and usually end up under on calories. I make the most of what I create for my meals not only the nutition, d the taste of what I come up with, but I'm satified, full..and can't usually eat all that I've made. I load up my protein dishes with lots of veggies. You're so right..what works for one may not work for another. You have to find what works for you. Best wishes on your journey :-)

Dr. Wang, whom I work for, told me about this site. He said all of the diet "gimmicks" are just that a gimmicks. He said it does not matter what you eat, when you eat it, all that matters is calories. If you reduce calories, you will lose weight, plain and simple. And this is true. I just started, but it worked for my first week. Everyone wants to find a gimmick so that they can eat more and still lose weight. Not true. You do have to eat less, within a healthy range, but less. :flowerforyou:

If calories are all that matter you should make them count. 3/4 cup of broccoli and cauliflower are 25 calories and if that is the case you can eat allot and get filled in the process. Calories count if it's not garbage like candy which is ok in moderation. A turkey burger is lower in calories and larger than a hamburger. So yes while calories do count make them work.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! My net (after exercise) is generally between 700-800 calories. I eat 1200-1400 mostly in fruit, vegetables and lean protiens. This is a lot of food and i don't have a very big appetite specially in the mornings. Then in the evenings i do a one hour very brisk walk which usually burns about 700 calories. When I posted a few days ago inquiring about the low net calories, I got several responses on how I must have a mental problem and should seek counseling! I was pretty surprised by the responses.

Yeah no problem. I wish people would be more encouraging. Everyone knows it's about quality. If a product does not have quality you regret it. People lament spending money but allot of times if it's not quality they wished they spent more to get something that worked as it promised.

While I give a gentle nod to quality when I make my food choices, I look at calories and I look at macros. The combination of those two things keep me in line fairly well. Perhaps other people have different experiences, but there's only so much junk food I can eat that will keep me in line for both my daily calories withing specific macro guidelines that I set for myself.

I eat my fair amount of food that other people probably consider poison, but I find the higher quality food also just so happens to fit easier into my other goals--so that ends up being a part of my diet as well.

Discussions of quality of food, in general daily life-not necessarily here, degenerate into people "bible thumping" with whatever best seller they happened to hear about on tv. So I avoid that drama when I can.

Well, really it is about quantity. To achieve weight loss quality is irrelevant. Create a calorie deficit, hit your macros, you will lose weight. It matters not where those calories come from, be it fruit, veg, candy, etc.

Now, it you're talking about getting healthy, THEN quality makes an appearance. I'd far rather have that 80 cal candy bar than a big bowl of broccoli  ! But, if i want to get uber healthy, then I'd have to start cutting out/right down on things i like, and start eating things i really don't like.

Therefore, i have decided that there is no real need for me to get 100% healthy, and it would actually harm my progress as I'd never stick with it.

Each of us has to decide if something is worth it. And it's not just about nutrients and calories. It's about taste too. However we choose to do it, the ultimate goal remains the same. Create a calorie deficit.

It is widely known that people of faith who follow the bible's standard of eating and common sense are healthier. Eating healthy is totally a biblical idea hate religion if you must. So quit being a follower. Your whole theory is not correct if you take 2 people and compare. Even genetically sibblings don't grow the same. Nutrition needs are different for men and women for example.

I've had this discussion with a friend of mine... she seems to think that she can eat all the healthy food she wants and loose weight... I said exactly what you said above... not sure if she believes me... well, can't convince someone who doesn't want to.

If it is about quantity vs quality go eat equeal amounts of candy and equal amounts of veggies, calorie wise and see who loses first. Also tell a diabetic on drugs to eat sugar candy vs non sugar candy.

Fascinating. You either didn't understand what I was saying or do understand and are choosing to play a victim. I guess it's also possible I don't understand your objection.

"Bible thumping" in this instance would refer to anyone who attempts to force their religion on others, though I'm sure the thumpers don't see it that way; that's not evidence that I hate, or even dislike religion. Looking at my statement, we see I'm referring to people who hold best-selling fitness books as the gospel Truth and then attempt to convert people aggressively.

I'm not sure what "theory" of mine you're referring to regardless. I was just stating how I look at my food choices and what the results are. You are, of course, welcome to be rabidly opposed to it if you like.

Try being less literal in your interpretations if at all possible.

I used to follow Weight Watchers. I only stopped because it seemed to get to the point that eating too little was stalling my weight loss and even causing gains all of a sudden, so I decided to eat more and see what happened. This works for some, not others and I'm not arguing one way or the other because at different points of my life, different things have worked for MY body.

Now, the point of this post:

WW sets in place what they call the Good Health Guidelines, which require you eat a minimum amount of certain healthy foods and limit certain unhealthy foods. I found when I follow those guidelines (even if I'm not counting points), I do better both losing and maintaining and am less likely to gain.

I do think quality matters as much as quantity, though you CAN lose and maintain on junk food.

I don't follow any fads with nutrition. My theory is that the more natural a food is, the better. It's what our bodies were designed to eat and so our bodies process the more natural foods more easily and efficiently. And that works for me and I'll keep doing that. I'm not perfect 100% of the time and have no desire to be so. I do enjoy a piece of cake every once in a while, or a pizza. I just limit how much and how often I eat those things.

What someone else does is of no consequence to me, but if asked for advice, that is the advice I would give.

Sorry bad mood alert. It's just that all christians generally get lumped in as bible thumpers and the same for non believers as general people who hate all christians. Neither is true and it seemed unnecessary on this post to bring up the term. Late night at the hospital. Tired people should go to bed (me), I was dissapointed to see the term. In general calories matter depending on what is giving them value. I can be on par with calories and eat allot of sugar (it's in everything!!!!!!!!!) and gain weight like crazy. Even with exercise when I've been overweight I didn't lose or gained when I ate over 1000 and didn't watch quality.
