(And maybe men..no judgement) Did you know..in 2012 your percription will be free! Under the affordable care act, insurance companies will be required to pay for it!

    nice...I am on BC cause of PCOS..and the doc wont change the brand cause of the side effects.. ( she tried 2 others..with bad bad results)...so it will be nice not to shell out $30 for something that I need...

    Mine is only 7.50 because she put me generic. But I heard some people have to pay 30 plus. Insane!

    what brand do you use? I also have PCOS and my doctor says that diane 35 is the best. but i'm looking for other options.

    wellll...it's not free. Someone's still paying for it somewhere, maybe with higher premiums. But still...it's good news for some women.

    Awesome!! Although I'm about to quit my BC and switch to the Fertility Awareness Method... but good news for the ladies (and their partners/families!!) that will benefit from it. :smile:

    Side note-- Will this only benefit women who have insurance, though? The real need for BC assistance is with low-income populations, many of whom are also uninsured...

    fact you may not have known until now....

    many insurance companies covered "Viagra" and other ED medications, but carved out contraception, abortion, and/or maternity coverage LONG before anyone bothered to raise hell about it. pun not necessarily intended, but i hope that sticks in your head.

    I am reading all this in the cosmo by the way. And it says it includes the pill, the ring, and the IUD. So I am thinking that is a yes!

    The article says
    "The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced new guidelines in Washington Monday requiring health insurance plans beginning on or after August 1, 2012 to cover several women's preventive services, including birth control and voluntary sterilization."

    It sounds like this affects only new plans and if you are already covered under an insurance plan, this won't affect you. Maybe I'm reading it wrong?

    Fortunately my company benefits have covered this, but this is good news... I'm not sure if it holds true to anyone here in Canada, maybe in other provinces, but here in Alberta it's not. I've always thought it was something that should be covered by Alberta Healthcare.

    mine is free...and before I got health care, I paid $7/month...and I live in Canada

    Fingers crossed this is for real, b/c my insurance quit covering it at all this year and I've been paying over 80 bucks a month this entire year..
