I joined a new gym and had my first session with a trainer on 10/22, she put me through my paces and had me do two 10 minute sessions on the cycle at cardio burn cycle. The most I could do was an avg mph of 11.7 over the 20 minutes total and I felt like the world was about to end. I didn't have an HRM then, but on the bike my HR was all over the board.
Fast forward to today and I was able to do 3 sessions of 15,12 and 15 minutes at an avg of 21.4 mph on level 5 with hills! Legs were burning and I was exhausted, but it is a great feeling. Also by now using my HRM I was able to keep my rate between 70% and 75% for my entire 58 minute circuit.
Now to make that the new standard moving forward, my next goal is three 20 minute sessions at an avg 21.5 mph with 15 minutes of additional circuit training keeping the HR between 72% and 78%

Awesome job! Many would consider a 70%-ish heart rate a good fat burning zone.0

Having a heart rate monitor is so much fun...gives you something to do, great feedback , more accurate burn, watching your fitness level improve. Theres so much more to this than just losing weight!!0
