Catherine Collins, chief dietician at St George's Hospital, London, states that although reducing salt intake lowers blood pressure in patients with severe hypertension, but if you have normal blood pressure, the amount of salt in your diet has no effect on your health whatsoever. Salt reduction has no beneficial effect in terms of reducing the risk of heart attacks, strokes or early death.
Interesting, I thought.
I get bad cramps if I don't eat enough salt.

Yup, this has been known for quite a while. Salt is an easy medical bullseye for all that encompasses hypertension......the other reasons for hypertension take up too much time in the Dr's office to explain, like a lifestyle change for example.0

Most people should limit their salt intake. I have to eat salt, because I work out heavy and often. I sweat a lot and I drink about 1.5-2 gallons of water a day. Without adequate salt, I would lose all of my electrolytes. Your doc is the best evaluator for your suggested salt intake!0

No they're not, clearly random people on a website are the best source.0 -
I have no problem with blood pressure but if I eat salty things in the evening, I will have huge eyebags next morning!!! So just for vanity reasons I try to remember avoiding salty stuff after 4 pm or so... ;-)0

That is interesting. The few times I have limited my salt intake I have had such painful cramps I can't sleep at night. I add a fair bit of salt to my food, but I don't eat anything processed, and am vegetarian, so don't get added salt from meat, so I probably need to add it to get any at all.0
