Ok so as yall know I have been here a few weeks (Jan 21) and have had quite a few post asking questions, celebrating weight loss, crying over weight gain, injuries and trying to give support.
I have a question about portion size. I eat 5-7 meals a day. I am rarely over my calories. At dinner sometimes I feel like the portion is bigger then it should be and often exactly the same as what it used to look like. The difference is the food I am eating is better for me and rarely am I over 500 cals for dinner. I usually average 300 cals a meal (breakfast and lunch) snacks are small, peice of fruit, yogurt, chocolate milk (180 cals). Do I really need to watch my portion size if I am staying under the 1299 cals alotted to me here?
Also, not seeing the losses I expected to after 3 weeks...bouncing back and forth 3 pounds this weekend...total loss is 8 lbs though (give or take the 3 lbs depending on the day). I am happy with the loss, 8 lbs is incredible and even if you added the 3 back, that would be 5lbs ....EXCELLANT! I am just having a hard time with the portion sizes at the moment....sure there will be something else tomorrow:flowerforyou:
PS I am drinking well above the 64oz of water....doing everything how I should, do need more exercise though.

I weigh EVERYTHING... Seriously, anything that doesn't come pre-packaged, like a Lean Cuisine, I weigh it on a little scale. There have been times that I think I'm giving myself the correct portion size, and then when I actually do weigh it, it turns out that I am way, way off from the actual amount. Don't know if this helps or not, but I hope it will0

I try to put everything in the measuring cup.....think I need a scale for the meats though, thats a good idea....although I am usually a little under my cals in a day so I figure what ever I am over on the meats likely won't be killing it for me. And if I do go over it is very minimal.
Thanks honey!0 -

I feel ya girl! I had alot of trouble with portions in the beginning. I bought a small kitchen scale and found that sometimes I was under when I actually weighed out what I was using. In other words... I wasnt eating enough. After the 2nd week, i started weighing and measuring stuff and being more careful with estimating, but now its easier to eyeball it since I spent about 2 weeks using the scale and measuring cups while putting my meals together.
Eating 6 times a day is the way to go! You will be more satisfied during the day when you eat small meals all day, rather than 3 big ones. It also kicks your metabolism in gear. I think one thing that has helped me alot is to eat a good sized breakfast around 400 cals which Is also when I eat most of my carbs. Its been hard for me because I am NOT a breakfast person but doing it this way keeps my energy level up and since I dont always have time to have a snack, it keeps me satisfied till lunch time.
Your doing something right to have lost 8 pounds!! I lost 8 lbs in my first 4 weeks, so Im right there with ya. I toggled with the last 2 pounds I lost for that 4th week and it drove me nuts.. but it WILL fall off.. just stick to it and try to get more exercise in. The exercise portion will definitely help alot!
PS. Good girl drinkin yer water!!!! I am normally a huge water drinker, but lately that has been my biggest issue. Not sure why :sad:0
