Yesterday was my first day of the 30 day shred, I only did the first 20 mins like ur suppose to. Well my upper body is sore, like my arm's and the bit that connects from arm to breast. I've not been this sore in years. I'm not complaining, cus I know it's a good sore that my body needs.

My question is it good to continue working out this sore? Or does your body need a day of a break? I don't want to injure myself or over do it, but I want to push myself. I already proven I can do this, I pushed myself through that whole first part and things on that disk I never would have attempted I did and now I'm excited to keep going with it and see what more I can make myself do. So does this mean to keep pushing it or take a break though?

  • Sore is good, keep going! You'll get through it :o)
  • Also try a glass of milk and a banana after your workout.

I take a 2:1 carbs/protein shake after my workouts and it really helps recovery/combat soreness. As i say, a pint of milk and a banana would be good.
  • It's called DOMS, delayed onset muscle soreness. It's typically the worst the first time you change your work out. Rest is really the only way that it will go away, if you are very sore, like any negative movement produces soreness, try to focus on other parts of your body today. If it's not too bad, then I would say just go for it and don't let it hold you back. Soreness right after a workout means you did something wrong, soreness within 24-48 hours after a workout is DOMS! :)
  • as hard as it is, I worked through it and was feeling better by day 3...

I also gained weight and didn't drop it until day 7 or so-I think as a result of the muscles making a little extra fluid in an attempt to "heal" themselves up. Our bodies do that (hence the need for drain tubes after surgeries). :)

    Good luck!!
  • Go for it again! Watch yourself in your workout today. If it's hurting while you are doing it, slow down or do a modified for whats hurting.

Stretch extra throughout the day, drink your water (!!!), ice the area that's sore (if you can), and take Advil if you don't have an aversion to taking pain meds.

Good job!!! You are changing your body! :D

technically nothing wrong with working through it... DOMS (delayed onset of muscle soreness) - ust muscle micro tears - kind of lets you know you actually worked your muscles. Come a rest day these microtears will heal (and when you're not using them and during sleep they'll be repairing too) and make your muscles bigger and stronger.... Some people choose to work different muscle groups on different days to maximise the efficiency of healing and being able to going back to bigger weights/more reps/working harder and getting faster results. Drink enough water.

DOMS is created by the eccentric phase of a muscle contraction; in layman terms, lengthening (or stretching) of the muscle. If you're experiencing this kind of soreness then avoid exercising that muscle until it recovers. Not allowing your muscles to recover properly could lead to permanent damage. Typically a decent rest period, even if you're not experiencing DOMS, is 48-72 hours. So if you exercised a specific muscle yesterday then tomorrow it should be recovered fully. Sometimes, depending on how de-conditioned an individual is, recovery may take longer.

Also, absence of DOMS does NOT mean you didn't work out hard enough. Just a tidbit.

Thanks guys, I have a photoshoot today I have to do (photographer here lol) and I might just do lighter exercises I'm worried if I work those muscles today that I might not be able to get it done right. I'm ok right now, they are sore but I can deal with it lol. Will just have to pick it up when I go for my walk this after noon. Big arm movements and stuff haha.

If you are just a little sore, it's fine to work out. But if you are very sore, you should probably take it easy for a day or two with that muscle group. Maybe there's a DVD that targets another muscle group, and lets the sore ones rest?

It's more sore then I normally get, but it's not too sore. So what I might do if my walking partner is not up for a walk today, I'll do the shed after my shoot if my husband doesn't mind me to take over the tv for 20 mins or suck it up and try to go jogging like I been wanting to try lol.
