Popcorn at a ballgame

I eat a lot of popcorn at basketball games this time of year.

I've tried to estimate how many calories would be in a bag that you would typically buy at a ballgame. I would say there at 4-6 cups in a bag.

How many calories do you think would be in this type of popcorn?
Obviously it's popped in a popcorn machine, not in the microwave...and I'm pretty sure it's not smartpop.

Edit: Does 275 Calories sound about right for 5 cups?

I put it in as "oil popped" pop corn.

    Thanks!

That's what I put in for the "edit" part of my original post and came up with 275.

Hm, I don't know if popcorn at a ballgame is worth that!

And I it really depends on who is making the pop corn. I checked all the oil popped and one said as much as 350 calories. We go to games a couple nights a week and it's so hard not to get the popcorn when everybody else has it. A slim friend of mine will pop one of those 100 calorie microwave bags at home then stick it in her purse to have at the game. I would do that but I hate microwave popcorn:sick:

It might not be quite as bad as you think. We have a popcorn machine here at work and used pre-packaged supplies from PopWeaver - combination of Coconut Oil and Kernels. It comes out to be 35 calories a cup - popped. So for 5 cups that would be about 175 cals. a box. But - it all depends on what the corn is being popped in.

    Hope this helps :-)

Having a popcorn machine at work has made it very tough for me to only snack on healthy things! I allow myself 1-3 boxes a week. I think our boxes hold about 4 cups - although I haven't measured.

a medium popcorn at the theater without butter has 951 calories according to CalorieKing.com. I can't imagine that there is anything different at the ballgame. I ran into this a while back when I found out I'd had 1200 calories in a large at the movies.

A small, which is about 9 cups as 573 calories.

In order to break it down more, a mini-single serving bag of microwave popcorn usually has about 6 cups.

I got curious about why commercially popped corn is so high in calories and found that typically they use hydrogenated coconut oils with artificial butter flavoring to pop the kernals and then top them with a butter-flavored topping that is mostly hygrogenated soybean oil. I think that reads as a lot of trans fats.

Makes me sad, because I love theater popcorn.

One small popcorn(listed as 6 cups) at the Target food court is 382 Calories. I would imagine that would be about the same as at a ball game. Same type of machine, etc.

I agree this sounds about right...
