Hi everyone!

This is going to be a little bit of a rant. And a vent. :)

Here is the deal. I was doing really great for about four months. Working out practically everyday and eating totally right. Even when I really didn't feel like working out, I made myself do it and I pushed through it. Being so motivated and disciplined really did make me feel great.

But now, for the last month, it isn't like that anymore. I have completely fallen off the wagon and I feel awful. I can't find that discipline anymore and I feel like I have absolutely no drive to get off my butt and workout. I just feel SO lazy!!!
And although my meals aren't too bad, I find myself eating the bad stuff. Like the little chocolate bars in the Halloween candy.

The worst part, I basically have a home gym in my basement. An elliptical machine, a treadmill, a vibration machine, dumbbell weights, a weighted vest, a punching bag, a ab curler and ab lounge chair, an aerobic step, a captains chair, a roman chair and a weight bench with bench press/lat bar.
Not to mention I have pretty much every workout video.

It is crazy and ridiculous that I am not using my home gym! Obviously, I accumulated everything during my good four months of fitness bliss. I built it with fitness for life in mind. Not to mention, spend quite a lot on everything combined.

I don't know what happened to me!!! I am about 30 pounds away from my goal and I want it more than anything. I really do.
It is winter where I live now. I want to be at my goal weight by late spring. This means I have 4-5 months. It should be no problem to get to my goal in that amount of time. But I have to do the work. I NEED TO WORKOUT!

The funny thing is, I really want to! I even kind of fantasize about working out. I want to be able to take my kids to the beach this summer. They are 5 and 7 years old and regardless of me loving the beach, I have never done so. I have always just felt way too self-conscious to wear a bathing suit in public. It's the fact of seeing all the pretty thin girls. It kills me.
I don't know what is wrong with me.

I've said this many times this last month, But I would like to try to make tomorrow the first day of me changing things about myself. During the week, I have no kids and time to myself for 2 hours in the afternoon. I should be working out!

I am asking for help!
Not only do I need a really good verbal kick in the *kitten*, but I also need to be held accountable in some way.

You can do this. Get back into this. You have 30 more pounds to lose...you have been doing so well, but now there are more temptations around with the holiday season coming along. And it will only get harder with Christmas just around the corner, but you can do this. Just take it one day at a time. Get back into the gym of yours tomorrow. Start slowly....do something for 30 minutes and keep increasing it once you become used to working out again. You can totally do this....make a deal with yourself....30 minute working out tomorrow and try to stay under your calories tomorrow....
    One day at a time!!!!!!
  • Well then...

Get up go put on tennis shoes and work out!!

I work full time, go to school full time, and I still manage to make it to the gym 5 days a week to work out for at least an hour a day. If I can do it, you can too! You've already admitted that you have everything you need: the time (2 hours in the afternoon without kids), the equipment (in your own home, no less! You don't even have to venture out into the cold, rain/snow in order to get to the gym!). So all you're lacking is the motivation. Maybe try asking yourself what exactly it is that's standing in your way. There's nothing wrong with having a little chocolate now and then. I have a brownie every afternoon as part of my snack, and I have a jello pudding every day for lunch. You're so close to your goal weight and all you need to do is just make it happen. Good luck!

YOU SHOULD GET A WORKOUT BUDDY!
invite a friend over! make it a scheduled date at such-such time on certain days of the week. you will both benefit from it!
& it will hold you accountable & help you stay committed.
wish i had a friend close by that i could use their gym.....
  • I have been up and down on the roller coaster of weight loss. My last wake up call was knowing that I am borderline type 2 diabetic and knowing I don't want to walk that road. I think you need to go back over your goals and ask yourself why do you want to lose the weight. Make a new list. Find new reasons. YOU are the most important reason to get healthy. This is a very bad time of year to try to lose weight. It has been very hard for me to resist the temptation of sweets, but I am also tired of being the fat friend. My favorite quote that someone told me that helped motivate me recently: "you can't win if you don't keep score" I love that saying. I hope you can pull yourself out of this funk. Have a blessed day

You're almost halfway to your goal!! That's gotta be motivation right there!

I think it may be good for you to make a list of all the reasons, and I mean ALL the reasons, that you want to get in shape. Write them down on poster board and put them in your workout room, right in front of your treadmill or wherever you do cardio. On the days you don't feel like doing it, just change into your workout gear, go down there and stand on your equipment and read that list. See if that helps. Some days I will literally read mine over and over while I run on my treadmill, like a mantra. It's quite motivational when you think of all the good that will come of your hard work.

You're the only one who can really hold yourself accountable, but feel free to add me as a friend if you'd like some encouragement. That's what MFP is all about

    Hi there
add me as a friend if you wish - we look to be in a similar place and have a similar distance to go!
(I'll encourage and keep you accountable - if you can do the same for me.)

sounds as if you have been very successful so far - well done!

Perhaps you are tired of looking so far ahead? It might help to have a shorter term goal. It is hard to think of sticking something for several months but hanging in there for just a week (or even just another day) seems possible

. Perhaps you need a change (as good as a rest - or so they say). Why not leave the home gym for a week (not forever - so don't feel guilty) and take up something new: - long walks - swims - a dance class... A new challenge for the week might be fun? Try a new cook-book (low calorie etc.) and vary the diet too?
    Good luck
