  • That's funny! I'm the same way. I joined MFP in June, here it is going on December and I've lost 4 pounds. I just got serious about this stuff, if I eat it, I gotta work it off. I have an eating problem and I love a stiff drink with my dinner so I have a lot to burn off. Thats called having my cake and eating it too, cause I say why have the darn cake if you cant eat it. You didnt mention if you did any exercise to ward off some of those calories.

Ok ... First of all ... SMILING at you ! Your honesty is profound and admired !

Let me go straight to the point now ... We all LOVE a little fun or even alot of fun ! But, that doesn't give us a free pass to destroy our best efforts ! You will gradually learn that when you put in alot of hard work and then blow it on one night .. it will defeat your purpose and you will be angry at your weaknesses. Learning to party with your health in mind is a very valuable tool ... learn what you can tolerate and still enjoy. There are plenty of options and just being in the know is key. Do your research and then remember ... the fun isn't about how much you can eat or drink ... the fun is just being YOU ! :)
  • That baby is so adorable.

Andy, my Andy...29 is the official cut-off for that kind of partying the night away.
Look at your profile pic and that'll help put this party phase of yours into perspective!

we all gotta grow up sometime
the "shouldn'ts" will be the thing that most bring ya down...come on get things moving in the right direction before SHE starts to notice.

Woah, relax! If you checked out his diary, he's doing fine in terms of not going overboard. Don't be so judgy on 3 sentences from the guy.

It's all about making a life you can live. If it's all deprivation all the time you'll never stick to or learn how to eat for the long haul.

Comes down to priorities and trade-offs.

I figured out early on I couldn't stick to the 1290 calories that MFP was giving me and I almost gave up.

But then I realized I didn't have to be perfect I just had to do better.
So I gave myself a range
1200 cal was my rock bottom.
My lose 1 lb/week calories 1290 was my TARGET (later I made lose 1/2 lb/week cals my target)
My maintain GOAL weight calories was the top of my range.

As long as I was within that range I would lose, but slower than MFP said, but as long as I can keep it up that's okay. If I lose quicker but get frustrated and give up, that's not doing me any good.

I also calculated my maintain CURRENT weight calories, that was my safety valve. As long as I was under that i shouldn't gain any weight.

I could do 2-3 days near my target, then 1 day near the high-end of my range. Still I found myself getting a little anxious when I went over my target. So I did a little spreadsheet and calculated my over target and under target and did a 10-day average. I found out most of the time I was ahead of the game.

It made me relax a bit and seeing the longer view helped me prepare or compensate for days/weekends when I knew i would want to indulge or that food would be out of my control. (i'm not going to pass on all weekend invites, because I'm on a diet. I'm doing this to make my life better. i"m not going to sit in a corner with a celery stick, because my social life interferes with my diet. )

I'm trying real hard to break the food/guilt link. Even if I do go over, it's done it's past I can't change it. Beating myself up over it can't undo it. It only causes stress which is counterproductive to weight loss. Why do that to myself???
