B-12 deficiency

Hey all! So lately I have noticed that I'm urinating a lot, been tired lately, feeling generally down, and experiencing numbness in my toes and fingers. I did some WEBMDing and found the simplest explination for all this to be a vitamin B-12 defficency. I don't eat much meat or dairy so is there another food I can add to my diet to fill this void or do I need to suck it up and start taking a suppliment? (Not a meds person, I don't even take advil or tylenol)
Any good suggestions for a B-12 suppliment? Do I need to suppliment other vitamins as well? In other words, if I'm not getting B-12, am I missing other things for the same reason?

I think a good multi-vitamin wuld be a great addition. I understand not likeing meds...but ... You can find a good multi-vitamin with lots of good stuff in it. Some other things you might want to look for in the multi-vitamin is iron (don't over do it), vitamin A, Calcium, and folic acid....extra Omega 3 (DHA) is also a great supliment.
I don't like meds, but I started feeling MUCH better once I started supplimenting with a good multi-vitamin. And if you're willing to spend a little you can find some really good ones with more natural or organic indgredients.
*you should always check with your Dr. before taking anything on a regular basis though.*0 -
I seriously recommend you talk with your doctor about your symptoms. There are other things that can cause what you're describing and a simple blood test could clear it up. My first thought was blood sugar issues or even diabetes onset. I don't want to scare you or worry you but would hate to see something go untreated and become a bigger issue down the road.0

I agree with Frost, you may want to check with your Dr, just to be safe, ask Dr about a vitamin0

Well normally I would go to the doctor, but I don't have health insurance right now :frown: I'm gonna try the multivitamin0

A vitamin B12 deficiency is very serious and can lead to death. If you really think it's a possibility, I think it would be worth a trip to the doctor even if it is expensive. I wouldn't want to endanger my nerve function.0

well "expensive" isn't the problem- its simple unaffordable so I was just looking some good names in vitamins-I've never taken them before- If anyone can offer that I'd appreciate it but save the doctor lectures please, I already feel bad enough not being able to afford one.0

those symptoms for a 22year old are serious and you are assuming it is a B-12 deficiency..maybe it is something else .there are free clinics you could check out....please go0

I agree with Dave. I was a case manager/therapist for a lot of years and can help you find resources in your area. I know what types of places to call to find you free or reduced cost medical care. Just let me know the city and state and I'll even make the calls for you and get back with the information I find. I'm not working at the moment so have tons of free time.0

Thanks...I live in the DFW area of Texas (Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex)0 -
Most people are overdosing on vitamins, not deficient. Very few people should be taking supplements.
I will agree with others that you should see a doctor, not a GNC rep.0
