GARMIN FR60 question

Thinking about buying one of these, it comes with the HRM strap, but a question for people who own them. I do a lot of swimming and whilst i know you can use the watch under water presume you cannot use the HRM strap. So does the watch on its own monitor your heart rate and calories burned, probably not as accurate but i want something to check my heart rate and calories when swimming?

I have one and it will not detect your heart rate without the strap. And I am not sure you can use it in the water even though it is water resistant. I would double check that with Garmin. I can't find my book.
Read this thread it might help. https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?t=7828&highlight=water+proof0 -
You'd have to ask Garmin. The manual doesn't say anything about swimming. Other HRMs say that the watch and the strap can't communicate effectively through the water.0
