Scared.

I'm currently very underweight, and I need some advice from someone who has been there before. I weigh 100 lbs right now and I need to get to 110 at least. I'm just scared that all the extra weight is going to go to my stomach. Is this what happens? I really would appreciate any answers, advice, or information on how weight gain works. Thank you so very much.

good luck though!0 -
You might be wise to talk to a nutritionist and get sound advice from an expert. There are many people here that know lots of good stuff, but expert advice is always best.0

While I can't say that I have been there before, there are a few people on this board that have, and I have a few friends that are trying to reach a healthy weight.
The underlying premise is the same - whether we want to lose or gain - and can be summed by neatly by Michael Pollan: "Eat Food, Mostly Plants, Not too Much" (from his book "the ominvore's dilemma").
So if you are puting healthy, minimally processed foods in your body and exercising (maybe some strength training and light cardio), you should see some muscle gain, not pudge.
Don't be scared - if what you are doing doesn't work, you can always change your routine and modify your foods. Eating well is a learning process and this board is a great resource for tips. Hope this helps! :flowerforyou:0 -
This happened to me when I lost too much weight (got on a roll, and couldn't stop myself!) The weight does not come back on just in your stomach. It's distributed evenly, just as it would be when you lose it. It's amazing how much better even your neck and face look when you're not underweight. I thought I looked 10 years older when I was too thin!
Adding - I agree with previous posters...eat healthy food, just eat more than you're burning each day. You can still exercise to keep your muscle tone! But adjust your MFP goal so it will tell you how many calories to eat in order to gain.0 -
I think you need to talk to a doctor to make sure there are no other problems but yes eat healthy and keep the exercise going to keep your muscle there and to help your appitite. But walk and other low intensity exersise and eat more calories than you burn. Low weight is just as hard to beat as overweight.:flowerforyou: Wish you the best and get some expert advise.:flowerforyou:0
