Just joined here about a week ago after I got the app on my phone and weighed myself haha. I was horrified by the results ! I know everyone says you gain a bit when you start University but I wasnt expecting as much as I had. I've also got hypothyroidism, and i'm not sure how that'll affect my weight loss?

    Hi Jo,

Welcome! There are lots of people here dealing with both the University and Hyperthyroidism issues, so I'm sure you'll find the support you need. I don't really know anything about the latter, but my advice for dealing with the former - small changes that you can sustain and build on. It might be slower, but sticking to it is much easier, especially with a full class load. Things like walking all or part of the way to/from school, bringing healthy lunches with you and making sure you have a good snack in your bag to counteract the 3pm chocolate-bar urge (my personal demon!). Good luck!

Thanks ! I always make sure I walk which is a good 20 minutes, but having to cook for myself (which I will admit I am not good at haha..) and buying the right foods is difficult! Makes me appreciate my mums home cooking! Annoyingly I have a stock of fat foods in my freezer which I need to get rid of before I can buy healthier stuff (cant afford to waste!) I might try pushing it off onto my flatmates :)

Try to spread it out, rather than eating it all at once - a treat every now and then won't harm things too badly, and will (for me, anyway!) keep you better on-track over all than total deprivation. There'll probably be some good student-oriented cookbooks in the campus bookshop - grab one that's budget- and health-conscious and gives lots of instructions - you'll soon gain confidence in cooking! You might even find you like it!

Welcome and all the best with your weight loss! I just went ahead and threw out all my fatty stuff, but I also ate a crap load of takeaway. I am always tempted to eat takeaway, but I have to try and refrain myself! Last week I ate way too much crap! and I felt horrible.

This is a great way to gain support and lose weight. I am getting closer and closer each week. Its a good thing to see weight loss, how ever i gained this last week :S

i have a few cookbooks which im ashamed to say are gathering dust on my shelves... it'll be good to crack them out and make some tasty low cal foods though :)

by stopping drinking so much im hoping will really help, because without fail i would drukenly go to the chip shop every night on the way home and get myself chips and cheese... i dont even want to KNOW how many calories are in that !

i'm really glad I found this site, because losing weight together will definately be a lot easier than trying to struggle through it alone :) i'm also really enjoying monitering what i eat :D

You also become more aware of what you are eating. I find myself wanting to eat takeaway, then I realize that people will read my diary! So acountability on here is great!
