Party Dress

Help! I need some advise as to what style of dress to get for the party season. I have lost a fair bit of weight and have been hitting the gym every day, but its been such a long time since I have been this size that I have no idea what style of dress to buy.
I am based in the UK, tall, a size 16 (sometimes an 18) and an upside down triangle shape (top heavy with slim hips). My arms and legs are OK. I have fair colouring.
This season I am determined to wear a dress, so some pointers would be helpful

I'd check out a few magazines with Gok Wan or someone similar advising the best dresses for different body shapes.0

I would probably try try something that drops down from the waist or, since you say you don't have hips, or that has a pencil style bottom. A-lines thend to hide hips, so that probaly would not work for you. Just my opinion. I just bought my dress and I tried on about 50 of them in different styles until I found the one I liked. You might have to do the same thing. Most consultants have a pretty good idea of what to look for.0

Hi!
I would suggest something with a peplum at the skirt which would add volume to the hips and create more balance
Stay away from things that are too fussy at the top as this would create the illusion of much broader shoulders. This is an idea...

I may also suggest going for a top and skirt in block colours (block colouring is very in this season) and have a peplum skirt
Hope this helps a bit0 -

Try that out Tell it your body shape and what items of clothes you are looking for and it shows you some examples of what suits your shape. Hope that helps0 -
Thank you all for your input, in particular I found C4's body shape link very useful.
Despite this, I think I will just have to bite the bullet and try on every style of dress until I find one I am happy with
Westfield here I come!0
