Silver lining...

OK, this is gonna be kinda long. I was not here most of last week, because I was notified last Monday after lunch that this Wednesday will be the last day working with the company I am with. Needless to say, I was devastated. I gave up an awesome opportunity 3 months ago to stay here and even asked management at that time what their vision was for this office and where I would fit into that plan. I was reassured that I would be a part of their future endeavors and was told that I am a valued member of the team. So naturally, I turned the job down. I went against my core statement that "Unless your name in on the bottom right hand side of the paycheck, you should always be on the lookout for what is best for you". I went against that and I got burned. With it being the holidays and the end of the year, it is not easy to simply go into another position in my career field. It takes time, but the mortgage company, utilities, car payment, groceries cannot wait. But it is funny how things always seem to work out for the best when you are a good person, which I have been told I am.

Driving home that afternoon, I was listening to the radio and a hotelier in our area was discussing how he is expanding his medical facility where he treats his employees. I have know about his facility for years, but it is hard to get a foot in the door as he treats his employees so good, that no one ever leaves. The next day, I called them and asked if they were looking for new employees in my field. I was told by the lady who answered the phone that they were not. I asked if I could send over a resume for them to keep on file and she said yes. She said she will pass it along which is the PC thing to say I guess. I sent the resume and forgot about it. Well, on Friday of last week, I got a call from the manager of the facility. For the next 90 minutes, he discussed with me that officially they do not have an opening but they want me to join them in January when the new facility opens. He also said that should I receive any job offers in the coming weeks, he wants me to call him to see what needs to be done so I can be in their employ until he can officially post the job so they can bring me on earlier. I told him that I would but what guarantee would I have that I would be the top candidate for the position. He said that he would hire me as his assistant filing paperwork until he can get word from HR that the job is posted and the starting date. He wanted to meet me for dinner, but this weekend was already filled so I am supposed to meet him tomorrow night.

Later on that afternoon, I had a meeting with a lady who offers medical care to Brazilian and Argentinian travellers in the my area doing house calls to hotels. She offered me an opportunity with her company doing part time work at my convenience making $100 a patient visit. I started on Saturday and have made $800 over the last two days. Needless to say, if I did not get the notice that I was being let go a week ago, I would have missed out on these two awesome opportunities. I live by the idea of treating people like you want to be treated, and that has taken me far. I never burn bridges, no matter how much garbage I have to go over as I am being shoved over them. I am very confident in my skills and my knowledge base. I know my limitations. I also know that good things happen to good people and that there is always a silver lining behind every cloud...if you allow that silver lining to shine through. Always remember, that when one door closes, another one(in my case, two) opens.

Always,
E.

Amazing. Thanks for the inspiration as I sit here at work having been told there is no new work coming in and I (and potentially more than one of us) will probably be laid off if nothing else comes in soon.

It is the state of affairs today. No job is secured anymore, unless you are a politician, or a thief...lol.
