I recently started with a trainer. The first day after I am really sore and have hard time focussing on real life. I knew going in that getting sore for a day isn't a bad thing, but if you are sore by the 4th day that is. My trainer isn't a fan of taking tylonal as he says that some degree of inflammation speeds the healing process. He said message and moderate 15 minute interval on the elliptical or my Qi Gong should be done later in the day after heavy training and the next day as it brings blood flow to the area. I didn't manage to do this last week as it seems hard to make myself do these things. I will try more this week. I also don't like to give myself message to the sore areas, but maybe I should get over this. Does anyone else have any ideas of how to shift my mindset so I can focus on other things while sore? Or other ideas about relieving this? I have access to a whirl pool, but not sure if that would help. Someone told me that for some injury inflammation the back and forth of cold and hot can be good as it flexes the blood flow. Maybe I should try a cool bath and then a hot shower. Other ideas?

Yoga and stretching definitely helped me a lot this week with sore muscles. I have heard that a warm bath with epsom salt is also very helpful to relieve those sore muscles.0

If you're going to do a cold bath hot shower, it has got to be ICE COLD for full effect. I do ice packs, then hot bath. Its more relaxing that way and works very well for my muscles!0

The only thing that ever prevented soreness for me was drinking a protein shake immediately after my workout. The protein and natural sugars (don't get one with artificial sweeteners) are what help muscles repair themselves and a protein shake delivers those quickly since they only need to be absorbed, not digested like in solid food. If you don't get your muscles the sugar and protein they need they'll hold onto lots of water as the slowly recover, which causes water retention and soreness.0

Keep with it, eventually your body will get use to it and the soreness will go away.0

My cousin is a personal trainer and she just says to stretch throughout the day. It definitely helps me a lot.0

Tylenol doesn't really reduce inflammation much, but ibuprofen does. So if it gets bad, a ibuprofen or Motrin will work. If you want to stay away from meds, yoga is the best or just some stretches.0

Stretch and keep moving....... If you are THAT sore after 4 days... You've probably worked past your threshold... Go alittle lighter on the weights maybe?
I know for myself the first day after a workout I'm pretty sore.... but, 48 hrs after is the worst point!! I use Motrin, drink tons of water and keep myself moving....... if you sit and rest the muscles then they will become very stiff and even more sore when you start moving again.0
