Water

I used to search engine and found some good answers to this, but wanted to post anyways.
I have a 64oz jug that I use for water. I usually drink 2 of those a day. I work out twice a day (total of about an hour to an hour and a half) and I also drink 1-2 12oz cans of diet coke.
Am I drinking too much water?

Nope, not at all. You're losing some of that by working out, plus the additional water flushes out the extra junk from the soda. The whole "8 glasses a day" (one of your jugs' worth) is just the recommended minimum for the day. You're just fine with that amount.0

Perfect! Thank you!0

The only way you could ever drink too much water is if you hold it in and don't go to the bathroom. You can get water toxicity but only if you hold it in for extended periods. Your body will eliminate what it doesn't need and flush any unwanted toxins away, so drink away. I drink about 120 oz of water a day.0

I am drinking almost a gallon a day but thats over an 8 to 10 hour period....gotta flush those toxins0

The more water you drink, the better! Just make sure you are going to the bathroom (obviously) and not just letting it sit in your body because you can make yourself sick. But no, as long as you are going to the bathroom like you should, water is the best thing for you.0

If your pee is light/clear and you are still going to the bathroom too often then you are likely drinking more than you need. But it's unlikely to hurt you.0 -

Umm, what???? Water toxicity is caused by getting too much water too quickly. You might possibly develop bladder problems from chronically holding in your urine (or pee your pants), but you will not develop water toxicity.0 -

Too much water at once, from what I have read, dilutes the electrolytes the body needs, sending the body into shock.
I have never really understood the 8 glasses (64 oz) of water a day rule. Why does 300lbs me need the same amount of water as a 5 year old?
Having a hard time getting back to it, but I felt best when I was drinking 150oz per day.0 -

I completely agree with this. I feel best when I'm getting at least 120oz per day.0 -

You don't. It's a "general recommendation" meaning it applies to the average sized person of average health doing the average amount of exercise. And it's only an educated guesstimate at that.0 -

this isn't true.
My hubby took the 8 glasses thing too far, he was using a 44 oz macho cup and filling it 8 times. He wasn't holding it in, but his joints all swelled up and he made himself sick because you CAN go overboard. He reduced the water to appropriate levels and all of the problems disappeared!0 -
Just make sure you're drinking that much because you like it, or you medically have to. Don't do it just because you think you should. The 8x8 is a total myth, as it doesn't take into account water you get from a host of other sources.
If you drank no tea/coffee/milk/soda/juice etc, and eat no fruit/veg, then yes, 8x8 is the recommended average amount. However, assuming you do consume some of said things, then there really is no need to drink that much. The more water you drink, the better!
Not really. Too much can be harmful, any moderate excess is just urinated away anyway, so it's pointless. Just make sure you're getting enough.0 -
It seems like a lot to me, butu everyone's different I guess. My boyfriend drinks 120 oz and workouts regularly, so that's pretty similar to you. I just cannot drink that much water. I would overdose! As a rule of thumb, I keep track based upon what my pee looks like. It's easy to know when you are getting enough that way.0

So is maybe 100 oz more realistic?0

Just drink when you are thirsty, not because you think you should. And remember, it doesn't have to be neat water. Make some tea/coffee! Have some mio/squash! Enjoy your drinking!
If your pee is clear to light yellow, it's all good. That's the best indicator.0
