Eating with a cold

I feel like I'm coming down with a cold. Currently I'm trying to lose a pound a week, so I'm eating at a 500-calorie deficit. Should I eat a little extra, to fight off the cold? Or just stick with my normal goal? Don't get me wrong, if I feel hungry, I will eat; but should I purposely aim for more or just follow my hunger?

It's not how much you eat when you have a cold...it's what you eat. Be sure to drink plenty of fluids, fresh foods, and soups. I've learned through my husband's side (he's Persian) that boiling fresh turnips is a natural decongestant (breathe in the steam while they boil, then when they're done, drain them, throw one on a plate like a baked potato and just add a little salt to help cut the bitterness). It works everytime!

So far I'm not congested, just feeling really tired and sneezy. I will keep that in mind though. Turnips are pretty good but I haven't had one in a long time.

On the subject of turnips ... my family boils and mashes them as part of our Thanksgiving meal ... delish!
