I was always made to feel guilty about eating. whether is was good for me or not, I always felt "watched" when eating. So I began to sneak food and eat junk whenever I had a chance away from home. When we moved after high school, my parents found stashes of candy and chip wrappers I had hidden behind furniture so they wouold not know that I ate it. in college and beyond, it all caught up with me and I spiraled up the scale quickly. breaking those habits has been very hard. I still struggle with "secret eating".

My mother taught me that sitting around all day and drinking a 2 liter bottle of soda was good and dinner came from making reservations.

Thankfully, I was active because of my father even if he did have really bad eating habits.

Learning to make healthy meals and working on getting more active. Gave up the 2 liters of soda when I was pregnant 25 years ago. Just lost the taste for it and only occasionally have one now.

The only fault I give to my parents is that my mom cooks TOO well. And she constantly makes too much food.

My friends from work (whom I've done a few half marathons/triathlons with), always suggest going to my parents after a race because there will be unending food that is delicious.

I moved back home, and gained weight because food is too good. But now my mom and I have made a pact to cook healthy (and I take half to work the next day).

My mum believes that it doesnt' matter if you are fat so long as you are happy,. I've figured out that I don't want to be fat, no matter how happy I think I am. Plus she used food (unhealthy foods) as rewards so we always wanted rewards!
  • My mom just puts a ton of salt, sodium filled seasonings, and all of that kind of stuff in her food. It makes it taste really good and I can't cook without unhealthy things added in!

Oh cool!!!! I love blaming the parents...ok where will I start.....?? well my Mum has smoked since she was 10, so 59 years....through every pregnancy for 4 of us....we have all smoked but only one of us does now....I HATE smoking!!! gave up about 15 years ago......my dad is an alcoholic...therefore I like a drink....all he did and still does is drink......we always ate healthy (ironic really!) but HUGE meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner!!! My mum never had weight issues, but we all have, my dad is very overweight now as he has gotten older....I"m painting a lovely picture here aren't I!!! LOL.....I don't have much to do with my family we don't really have anything in common....BUT we are responsible for our own journeys now....would have been nice to have some guidance though...:o)
