I just did 45 minutes of the "Biggest Loser: Last Chance Workout" . I have a calorie burner/heart rate monitor thing I wore during the workout that says I burned 55 calories in that time; so I posted that on my Exercise Log here. With that said, I am confused. I could burn 10x this in the same amount of time on the elliptical. Anyways, seems REALLY low to me. Is it me? I am very disappointed.

the battery must be dying on that monitor! doing gentle yoga you burn 69 calories in 20 minutes! seriously!!! i think you had to have burned way more than that. log in the minutes under teh MFP calorie calculator--like under "calisthenics at home."

Ok, thanks everyone. I changed to aerobics, 45 minutes, and got 522. So went with that. Calesthetics was 642 or something and I did not want to put too high and get too excited. :)

Is that sort of reading typical? I assume it has a chest strap. If not, you need a different HRM.

First time I used it and it was on right wrist. Ugh. Will look into it. Thanks for the additional 411. It is one from Wal-Mart. $27, F7, or something like that -- other members may use this model too.

The same one from Walmart? I know many use a Polar FT7 or FT4, but those run 125+.

    hey Shannon,
A good rule of thumb, as my trainer told me, is that you generally burn 10 cals per minute if you are doing cardio, med effort. So 45 min = 450 cals. The site is pretty good at estimating, but if you're hrm ever goes on the fritz, it could be a guideline.

If your HRM does not have a chest strap it is basically useless for calculating calories. That is why your burn was so low. You MUST have a chest strap with it. I got a Sportline at Wal-mart for $50 with a chest strap and it works quite well. If you want your HRM for calculation of calories and it does not have a chest strap bring it back.
