Hey out there! I've heard twice that you can pop regular popcorn kernels in the microwave in just a paper lunch bag. I tried and it didnt work. I just got hot kernels that never popped.

Has anyone else heard of this and if so, what am I doing wrong??

Thanks for the help!

I've never heard of it but I suppose it could work. I would just get an air popper though, easy as they are..

I don't know, I've never tried it, I just asked my mom for her air popper, remember in the 80's when they were sooooooo popular? Well they are making a come back.

I have never heard of that, but I do know there is a microwavable bowl that is made to air pop popcorn in the microwave...
  • It should work...make sure you only use about a 1/4 cup of kernels and to fold the lunch bag at least a couple of times to create a decent seal. You can also add a little canola oil in the bag (will make it a bit soggy) to help heat up the kernels. Good luck.

I bought the microwave bowl at Target for 9.99, it works great, no oil required. I put in a dash of splenda and had kettle corn!

thanks....I'd heard of the bowl but hadnt found it anywhere yet. I just didnt want another bulky appliance like an air popper to sit around. (I'm OCD about counter clutter)

yes i asked my friend who is a Director of Child Nutrition. She uses a paper bag - brown or white the size for sandwiches. Put in about 1/3 cup. fold the opening down 2 times. place in microwave with the fold down. Pop but stand and watch or it will burn

Oh, thanks! I'm gonna try this tonight! My budget is EXTREMELY tight, so I was trying to figure out how to airpop without buying a machine. Glad I stumbled across this thread! Oh wait...do I have brown bags? I'm not sure I do...but they don't cost much, right?
