I have to say that the Kill Bill series is probably not my favorite outta his work. Not that it was bad, but I dunno... just thought it was missing alot of his trade-marks. I like that he paid homage to Asian Cinema and kinda slipped in the whole Speghetti Western influence. And that he was breaking outta his normal cop-gangster-drama-dark comedy genre. I just think what he did with two movies, what he could have just done with one. It would have been better polished if he would have just focused on one style of Asia cinema. Either Hong Kong kung-fu or Japanese whatever was going on. The second movie wasn't nearly as good as the first.
Plus, I think it was just bad timing... Kill Bill came out about the same time alot of international martial art films had come out in the U.S.. I think people were gettin kinda tired of the flying stunt work and blade-slashing. But on the flipside, you got a generation of people who have never watched those kinda movies...so maybe it opened some onto something new. Thats just my opinion.0 -
