Do carbs make people feel fuller after some time?

I went out with my hubby last night, he ordered rice and nan bread; I eat some and didn't over eat. It was been a month since I have been able to eat carbs, but each time I tried to eat them I would just gorge on them and have this feeling of disparity, like I needed them desperately.
I hate that feeling. Last night I didn't feel that, I actually enjoyed the night. I must say after about an hour after eating, I felt so full I had to go for an hour walk or there was no way I was going to sleep. Do carbs make people feel fuller after some time?

I get lethargic and hungry shortly after. Simple carbs, that is. I do better to have some protein.
  • The right carbs will make you feel fuller - like brown rice.
  • I could quite happily live on pasta and potatoes, and thought I'd struggle avoiding them when I started CCing, as I'd eaten them by the bucket load when doing SW. Thanks to CCing I am learning what my body likes, how it reacts etc and I now know I can eat these things in sensible quantities and WILL feel fuller for longer if I top up with water after them. Same with porridge - a wee pot can keep me going for hours!

Im no expert but If I remember right, they say carbs burn up quicker and after a short period of time, you feel hungry again. I believe that the more complex the carbs, the longer they take to burn in digestion. simple carbs give you that burst of energy and then fizzle out quick. Simple carbs shouldn't make you feel full though, as far as I know.

I usually need both protein and carbs to feel satisfied.
  • carbs from vegetables help you feel full longer. Avoide processed carbs like rice/pasta/most grains and pump up the veggie fiber content.

    Example:

you could eat half a pound of pasta and, while you will be (very) full, it won't last more than an hour or two.
Or you eat half a pound of broccoli, carrots and cauliflower and you will be full for a while.

I find that carbs make me full right after eating them, but that I get hungry quicker because they digest faster than fats or protein.

Depends if a glass of water makes them swell up again!
    Half joking.

For many, depends on your body's reaction to carbs in the tummy, and what else you ate at the same time.
200 calories of carbs in candy corn could go pretty quick.
200 calories of carbs in vegatable with some sort of good fat or protein could last awhile.

Also depends on how fast your your insulin shoots up to handle the glucose from carbs, and how low the glucose dips afterwards.

I find carbs bloat me, sometimes making me feel full, but that is usually very short-lived.

Eating carbs raises your blood sugar, then insulin is pumped into your body to lower it. Then you get a big dip in blood sugar and you end up feeling tired and craving more carbs within an hour or two.

I generally try to avoid as much as possible (veggies and fruit excluded - though even high-sugar fruits can cause a similar reaction).

I know that nan is made from Maida (white flower) and the rice was eat was a simple basmati. I ate these with a hearty goat curry with cashews and almonds. Could it be the meal combination that made me feel the way I did? Please respond as I am struggling with adding carbs in a way that makes my body feel healthy in my regular diet.

Anyway I was very happy to finally enjoy eating just a little carbs and saying enough I am happy and fulfilled. This was a big breakthrough for me.

Carbs keep me full and satisfied. That is, whole food carbs like veggies, fruit, starches, and whole grains. I can eat twice as much food as I could with processed items and moderation, and still lose the weight. Healthy nutrients, keeping full, and weight loss? What's not to love?

Cashews and almonds both have needed healthy fat in them too, depending on how much in the dish, that could have helped big time.
    Goat provided the protein.
Butter or oil on the nan and in the curry added fat.
Fat slows nutrient absorbtion. You might have even seen a different effect if you had eaten just the rice first, then nan, then waited 10 min to eat the goat curry.

If you could figure out what ratio that was for carbs:protein:fat, you may have just discovered a ratio that allows you to eat carbs without problem.

I'd be very curious what you come up with. Mine is 30:30:40.

So I'm guessing if you ate simple bagel with nothing on it, bad effects like fufonzo?

It's figured about 25% of population don't digest high carbs by themselves very well. About 50% vary somewhat, and 25% have no issues at all.
That would be like Dr Oz, no problems on massive carb low fat diet.
His audience seems to be not so much that same 25%.

Thank you very much for your post @ mbales369, that make a lot of sense to me. It was the first time since I started my weight loss journey last year that I felt great after eating carbs, full, happy and content with the little I ate.
I will experiment some more with the ratios, especially the ratio you stated 30:30:40, I think that might have been it.

I think it depends on the person. I've read posts from members that say eating carbs makes them crave more carbs. And some that say eating carbs make them bloated. But I've never experienced any of that. I stick to whole grains and find them very filling, and when I'm full I don't crave anything. You just have to go with what your body tells you.

I agree with this. I do not find carbs filling on their own but if I have just protein and fat I feel really icky all day (even if I eat carbs later)!
