Gym-less for a month, need tips!

Hi! I'm still relatively new to both MFP and serious weight loss, I think my 3 weeks here have been my most sucessful "diet" yet!
However, in three weeks, I'll leaving for TX and spending a whole month at my parents' house. Resisting all the delicious food will be a challenge of its own, but most importantly, I'll be gym-less for a month over the Christmas/New Year's period, which is HARD.
Usually, my main source of exercise is a 45-60 minute routine of very brisk walk uphill on the treadmill, then mostly elliptical trainer. I don't jog and I don't bike. The former because it hurts my knees and boucing chest, the latter because I just don't like it.
My parents do have a treadmill, and I will be taking long walks with the dog, but it just doesn't feel like it will be enough. Any tips to good cardio exercises I can do at home without much equipment?
PS: Also considering that 1 month period a great time to give the 30 DS a shot

Yes, yes, YES--do the 30 DS! Fantastic at-home workout. Make sure to get some handweights (probably start with 3 lbs., but at some point you'll probably want to move up to 5 lbs.). Another great video for cardio is Michelle Dozois's Peak 10 Cardio Intervals. Pretty tough, so you'll definitely get a great burn. Each circuit is about 10 mins., and there are five of them, so you can mix and match.0

Try body weight exercises. Push-ups, crunches, burpees, squats, yoga, etc.
Perhaps there is a gym near where your parents live that will give you a deal for the month?
Also, if your parents have a decent internet connection. Check out Bodyrock.tv on Youtube. Lots of great workout ideas there and most require no equipment.
Good luck and have fun0 -
That is a great Idea to do the shred combined with just walks outside, Since September I havent made it to my gym (due to time between work/school/kids) and I have had to do things at home, I have about 8 different DVDs I do (I get bored easy) these include several Biggest Loser Dvds as well as the 30 DS and TaeBo, TurboJam, and a Lesley Sansone walking one, The past 20 lbs I have lost have solely been what I have done at home, so you can do it!0

I've never tried 30DS but I find walking quickly with my dog a nice way to burn calories. When I get home I do the body weight exercises that the army use to condition new recruits, these keep me losing much faster than walking and cycling alone.
For the full range of body weight exercises available to you type calisthenics into google, these days i'm stronger and lighter than i've ever been and haven't spent a penny in the gyms ^^0 -
You could also try BodyRocking at BodyRock .com - they have free online workouts. It is all HIIT - High Intensity Interval Training.0

It will be nice out in Texas & they have some great hiking trails depending on the area!
I would also suggest 30DS (I just started) or you could just find some other Workout online (youtube or something)0 -
I haven`t had a gym membership in over 2 years. And I`ve lost more weight not having one.
What I do is:
- Run outside (no treadmill for me) (you can always walk too)
- Bike
- In the Winter I do foot a bill for swimming (about 10$ a month) and go swimming
- A weight training exercise video (or just do sit ups, push ups, arm curls with weights ect).0 -
Thank you so much for all the tips! I think I'll be trying the body weight exercises along with the 30 DS. I saw that Jillian has a new DVD coming out in a couple week, might get that one as well.0

Hi,
I lost a significant amount of weight five years ago, and have kept the vast majority of it off, and have yet to go to a gym to workout. The only exercise I have every done is walking.....and more walking.....and more walking. You don't need a gym to lose weight....just saying.
Good luck!!!
