Any exercise you enjoy that reduces overall body fat. You can't spot reduce. Even your back boobs.
  • BUMP BUMP BUMP! I hate back boobs!! I feel like it's the last thing to go too... D:
  • I do belly dancing. The focused muscle movements that you do with that, even in the beginning, have been amazing for building up muscle there.

Really though, your body will eventually use up that bit of fat that's stored as energy. Just remember to keep your heart rate up for more than 20 minutes, then your body will start using fat cells as energy more than carbs. :)

Yup - just work on getting thinner overall.

Also, get fitted for a good bra - they shouldn't cut in at the back - there are some that are targeted at a smooth back. And don't wear thin, clingy knit fabrics (or wear a camisole underneath).

As your overall body fat reduces. So will the back stuff... I am a huge fan of strength training! Lawnmowers rule!

Oddly my back fat came off first. I am still working on the front :)!

Can't spot reduce. Just maintain a moderate caloric deficit, do cardio and strength train. You'll eventually lose it.

    Yep.

"Spot reduction refers to the belief, long viewed as a myth, that fat can be targeted for reduction from a specific area of the body. There is a common view, although many people believe that view is misguided, that it is possible to achieve spot reduction through exercise of specific muscles in the desired area, such as exercising the abdominal muscles in an effort to lose weight in or around one's midsection. Advertisers play on this concept when advertising exercise-related products to gullible people. However, many fitness experts do not believe it is possible to reduce fat in one area by exercising that body part alone. Instead, fat is lost from the entire body as a result of diet and regular exercise. Muscle tone in the abdominal region does not reduce fat in that region. Instead, being on a caloric deficit is recommended for reducing abdominal fat.

The misunderstanding may be contributed to by the firming and shaping effect of muscle hypertrophy. When additional muscle is built, it takes up new space which can briefly compress subdermal fat against the skin until the skin adapts, a larger bulging muscle shape is also more easily seen through the layer of fat on top of it. This can give the illusion of fat being reduced when it has not. For example, triceps hypertrophy firming the back of the arm.

A 2006 study published in the American Journal of Physiology uncovered some interesting results, which seem to indicate that spot-reduction may in fact be possible, although to what degree is unclear. In the study, conducted at the University of Copenhagen (Denmark), scientists had male subjects perform single-leg extensions with light weight for 30 consecutive minutes. The researchers then measured the amount of blood flow to the subjects' subcutaneous fat cells (those under the skin) in both the exercising and resting thighs, as well as the amount of lipolysis (release of fat) from those fat cells.

The scientists discovered the exercising leg experienced a significant increase in blood flow to and lipolysis from the subcutaneous fat cells, compared to the resting leg. During exercise, the fat cells surrounding the trained muscle released more fat into the blood, meaning a greater quantity of fat from the targeted area is released into the body to be used as fuel. The study suggests that when you exercise, you do burn bodyfat preferentially from the area you're training."

I am using Turbo Jam: 5 Rocking Workouts, and it's melting off my fat of all over my body including the back boobs, my love handles have diminished dramatically and all the rolls of fat are getting smaller and smaller. As others said you can't spot reduce, you've to target your whole body so choose a workout that works every muscle in your body.
I love Turbo Jam, cause you twist your body a lot in all directions and move in ways most workouts don't, it works EVERY muscle in your body, it's working like magic on my body! So I suggest doing cardio that has you move your whole body-maybe Zumba, Tae Bo, Turbo Jam, I feel like most exercises leave it out or only have very little movement for the back area.

Nooooo the trick is STRENGTH training and lots of it. And some cardio. All cardio does is give you a larger calorie deficit (and increase your cardio vascular fitness - oh ok and increase strength in your legs and core to some degree) - strength maintains/increases muscle size and tone which gives your body a tighter look (which is why sometimes people lose a lot of size just from strength training even though their weight doesn't decrease much)

but yes as others have said - body fat reduction is the only way.

    Sorry :(

I agree that you can't spot reduce, however I've been doing the 30 Day Shred video and one of the first areas I noticed a reduction was my back and waist. My tops started to feel looser and so did my jeans. As a previous poster said above, the video has some great strength moves for your back. That and the overall continual cardio/strength work has been the key for me. I also agree until you start noticing a difference wear looser tops and/or camisoles. They have some great ones designed just for this issue you can wear under almost anything. Of course you want to actually lose it, but until you do, they'll make you feel a lot better in public.

    Good Luck!

Cardio burns fat and in my opinion, cardio beats strength training. Don't get me wrong, I like doing a little strength training, but I prefer doing cardio strength than solo strength training.

I will only speak for my body. If all I do is strength train, all that is going to do is strengthen my muscle under my fat and make me look bigger. If I want to get a lean look, I have to burn the fat and I can't do that without cardio.

you can do weights or trx.
    chest press, rows, lat pulldown

planks & pushups don't hurt either..... neither do kettlebell swings (which you can also do with weights).

When I started weight training, that was one of the first things I noticed a change in!
