Concussion :(

I found out today that I suffered a mild concussion at hockey last night (I blocked a slapshot and it rifled off my helmet) - no wonder I had a pounding headache all day today!

I've been told that I shouldn't perform any vigorous workouts for at least a week and now I'm worried, seeing as I've been exercising 4-5 days pretty intensely. Now I really need to keep eating well so that the lack of exercise doesn't destroy what I've done already.

Has anyone else suffered sports/accident related concussions and still worked out in non-vigorous ways? I always feel that when I'm working out I realy need to get my heart rate up or else it doesn't feel like I burned any calories.

Advice, help or support greatly appreciated here :)

  • You really need complete rest after a concussion, both physical and mental. Complete physical rest for sure, and limit things that are mentally challenging. Even watching movie, video games, computer time, reading, etc can aggrevate concussion symptoms. Follow your doctors advice and maybe cut back your calories for the time being.
  • I suffered a pretty bad concussion in June 2010, definitely make sure to follow doctors orders. I use to go on walks while I was recovering, it was really relaxing and not taxing on my head. Just make sure to bring a phone so you don't get lost like I did! :P
