Exercise headaches

Does anyone else ever get headaches after exercising? I tend to get them about 90% of the time. I used to think it was because I was dehydrated but I'm not. I drink plenty of water all day and even more before and during my workouts. Any ideas? Thanks!

I noticed that i got them for the last two workout sessions. Really bad pressure headaches. I am curious also, as to why this would happen?

You might want to try a Gatorade/etc. before/during workout instead of plain water because it may be an electrolyte imbalance.

I thought maybe it was from elevated blood pressure, but when I checked it wasn't so high. But that is something you could check too.

do you regularly - subconsciously hold your breath when you work out - that can cause headaches
  • This happens to me too. I had to stop doing Zumba because of it. Sad day. I am going to try it again and go with the Gatorade this time. Other people have mentioned that to me too. Good luck!

I get tension headaches sometimes, but I also have a back injury from being struck by a car that makes me more prone to them. When I do too much or sit/stand too long I end up with headaches.

I never thought of that, I will have to be more aware next time and see if that could be the problem.

That is a sad day! I haven't tried Zumba yet, but it's on my list. :) Hope you have better luck next time.

I got one today for the first time. Maybe it was because the gym was a little warm.

I will have to try the gatoraid, that would be awesome if that's all it was and could be fixed so easily. Thanks for the suggestion.

There's lots of reasons for post workout HA's. If you're being bothered by them, make sure to adequately replenish carbs, protein, and electolytes (sodium and potassium) after working out. I used to get really bad post-work out HA's when I pushed myself hard. But over time they went away as I got in better shape. So it can also simply be because your body isn't used to working out hard.

There was actually a study that showed regular exercise decreased migraine HA's, even in people who thought exercise was a trigger.
