HI

I've been on MFP for over 3 weeks, and did really well in the first three weeks losing approx 12lbs ..... now I've had my first week of no weight loss and am not sure why ... my exercise slackened a bit because of the flu, but I'm always under on my calories ... am trying really hard to keep motivated but today I feel a little down ... my husband is being supportive and telling me I'm looking good, but the scales are not helping me!!!

Any ideas anyone ? Especially as we are coming up to the holiday season, when I will no doubt need even more help!!

Thanks xxx

Losing 12 libs in 3 weeks is pretty amazing. Your body is probably just catching up or you could be at a plateau already. Make sure you eat your full daily allotment and exercise. It will kick back into gear again.

Everyone goes thru this, you are not alone. Keep up the great work and you will start seeing a difference again soon. I was at a stand still for almost a month, and now I am starting to lose again.

I've always found it difficult to lose with the flu.. unless it's gastric flu. Something about your body holding onto everything to fight the bugs, I think. Just keep going, and it will pick up again!

Relax. This is a journey, not a race. You may not have lost for a variety of reasons. Make sure you're eating at least 1200 calories a day and don't worry about a week of no weight lost. 12 lbs is terrific and you should be proud of that. Remember the primary goal is to be healthier. Losing weight is just one part of that goal.
  • i think the body assumes it's starving sometimes and adjusts. i find that some vigorous exercise gives it a push sometimes, kinda forcing you back into burn-mode lol

Keep at it!!! This happened to me on week 2 and 3 before getting going again. I think the body goes into a sort of shock.. but stick with it and it will all work out. Try not to get to caught up on the scales (yes I know how hard that is). I would recommend you take your measurements and focus more on that.

Totally expected. You're initial weight loss (great job BTW!) was your body adjusting to the "new normal" and now it needs something else to keep pushing it. Stick with your goals and calories and incorporate some new exercise and it'll start moving again.

I had a real stall after about a month and then started weight training but the weight started coming off steadily after that. Good luck and stick with it!

Three weeks is way too early to panic. 12 lbs is exceptional. Focus on that.

My guess is, if you had the flu your body is in repair mode. Usually when our bodies are under the weather, it retains water, and fats to build back up the immune system. At leasts that's what the doctor's said on the doctor's show.
  • thanx everyone .... just need those words of encouragement .... I'm probably expecting too much too soon .... must keep focused!!!

Been on my Journey for 28 months and I speak from experience, you have to think of this as a lifestyle and nothing else. You had a very good start and you will have weeks in the future where you do the same but you will also have these weeks when your body doesn't want to give anything up. Trust me I have went weeks without weightloss after doing everything right, you just have to take that week for what it is and refocus and concentrate on the next week. Don't try to rush things you didn't put this weight on overnight and it will take time to get it off, just stay dedicated and you will get to where you want to go. Another thing, you might want to take some measurements and on the weeks you don't lose weight, recheck your measurements. I have had weeks with no weight loss but lost inches which is just as important.... Good luck to you on the rest of your journey......
  • Thanks for this .... really helpful and will help me to keep focussed in the months to come!!!! Onwards and upwards!!
