I want to buy my boyfriend a decent heart rate monitor for Christmas. He runs, does P90X & Insanity. I don’t want a cheap one, but I can’t afford the top of the line either. Any ideas???

Not sure what you consider "top of the line" price but a Polar (FT4 or FT7) on Amazon is about $60-70 before shipping. It's well worth the price because they are excellent and have all kinds of great features. They are very accurate and he'll surely love it!

That's not much at all..., thanks a bunch!
  • I have a Polar CS300 watch which isn't too bad. It can tell you speed, distance, average speed, heart rate, calories burned, total time, etc. Maybe not a running device, it seems more specific for cycling.

Another one that I have used is the Garmin Forerunner 301, but that model is pretty old. There should be newer models out like the 305 and 405 I think. It has a built in GPS which will work for running and cycling. Also does everything the PolarCS300 does, but a bit more versatile and not strictly for cycling. I think from both of those I prefer the Garmin.

There are sooo many different types of heart rate monitors out there though, not just Garmin and Polar. XD
