I'm thinking about putting the Body Bugg on the top of my Christmas list. it can be a little pricey so I would like some recommendations from someone who has owned both the Body Bugg and a lower end heart rate monitor. would it be worth the extra $$?

thanks

I just got mine a few months ago and to have accurate calories to enter here is awesome but their whole site is a joke (the way you enter info). I much prefer MFP to do that and just use the BodyBugg to get my cal burned info for activities.

I'm getting the BodyMedia Fit Advantage. (The only real difference is it measures sleep too) I'm one of those gadget people who feel that if I am going to get something I want it to have all the features LOL. I feel I'll really understand more about my metabolism and knowing I'm shelling out dough for the membership will keep me accountable too.
  • Top of my list is the Body Media FIT (similiar to BodyBug) - I saw a woman wearing one in yoga class last night and she loved it - She's had it for a couple months and lost 25 lbs, she said it was a real eye opener.

I've read the reviews and it seems like all of them require a "membership" to get your info on your pc or phone but it's only $6.95 per month for 12 months with the first 3 months free.

I will be interested to see what people on MPF have to say about either of them.

EDIT: I have heard that the food database isn't as good or as easy to use as MFP so people log here and add quick calories on Body Media.

BodyMedia and bodybugg are both weight management systems that allow users to track data using an arm band monitor and modern technology such as IPhone and Android applications. The business model for both systems is identical. In order to lose weight and keep it off, dieters must have access to accurate information, such as calories in vs. calories out, and sleep patterns, which are carefully monitored on a daily basis. Bodymedia has licensed the use of its system to 24 Hour Fitness under the name bodybugg.

    The Armband
Both the BodyMedia FIT and the bodybugg armbands have built in pedometers that count your steps throughout the day. Internal sensors also track how many calories you burn in a 24 hour period. The system uses a patented process based on motion, steps, skin response, skin temperature, and heat flux, or the heat flowing from your body into the environment. According to the company website, the armbands capture your calories burned within 90 percent accuracy.

    Online Activity Manager
At the end of the day, you plug your BodyMedia or bodybugg armband into your computer. This automatically uploads the data from your day. Next, you upload the food you consumed throughout the day and tracked via your iPhone, Android or smartphone. The online activity manager not only monitors calories in vs. calories out, but also gives you a nutritional breakdown of the foods you are consuming. The web-based system then uses all the data to track and analyze your weight loss progress.

    Sleep Monitoring
When it comes to weight loss monitoring devices, the BodyMedia and bodybugg armbands are unique in that they also gather data while you sleep. The manufacturers of both BodyMedia and bodybugg systems, believe that sleep is a major factor in the battle of weight loss. The company has designed the armbands with technology that monitors the efficiency of your sleep cycle. They believe that this is one of the three keys, in addition to calories burned and calories consumed, to successful weight loss.

    Cost
Differences between BodyMedia and bodybugg may come down to cost and marketing. The BodyMedia system can be purchased through the company's website for around $260. While the bodybugg may be purchased through the 24 Hour Fitness website which offers a variety of bundles and price points. The most cost-efficient package allows you to purchase two armbands -- one in black and one in pink -- for the price of $279. The bottom line is BodyMedia and bodybugg, are both weight monitoring systems created by the same company with the same patented technology and online support.

they both work while you sleep...just sayin
