HRM Link

I cannot find a HRM on Amazon that has a dang chest strap; I also am only going by what I have read on past posts of the good ones. Such as the Polar Ft4 or Ft7, or Timex Ironman? If someone could give me a link to a GREAT HRM to use with a strap I would greatly appreciate it. I'm not to smart with searching for things on the internet.

Do you have to buy them separately?0

almost all of the Polar ones come with a strap... ?0

Hi! Happy Thanksgiving. My FT7 came with a chest strap. I think there is a sync accessory ("Flowlink") for the Polar HRMs though. This item uploads your info to the Polar user site.0

I didn't know they all came with a strap, I'm new with a HRM.
Thanks for the link!0 -

The one I am using right now. Most Timex come with the band, this one is small enough to not bother me, the other one I had before was too big and was a pain when doing crunches and such.0 -

They don't, that's the thing. Some take your HR around your wrist (no strap) some are just HR monitors and some others are watches/HRM like the Timex I am using.
You really have to shop for a good one, if you are going to use it every day, it's better to go with a good one. If you can actually go in a store and try the band before buying it's even better, that way you know you'll be comfortable wearing it for your workouts!0 -
Don't buy a Timex.. Thats for sure. They are crap in estimating calories.. ESP for women.
All Polars though should come with a strap... and if it doesn't then you can always return it.0 -

My boyfriend has a Polar and I read the same, give or take 5 calories for the same exact workout, tested multiple times, so I don't know if your source for this was unlucky with the one they bought, but my Timex and my BF's Polar are quite equal, despite the 100$ difference in price0 -

No, i wasn't unlucky, and here's why.
Polar takes all your info(age, sex, height and gender). The Timex only takes into consideration weight, max heart rate and time elapsed. Since it doesn't take gender into consideration, it assumes that you are a male.. which is why your boyfriends HRM and your HRM are reading the same calorie count.
If you had an HRM that took gender into consideration, it wouldn't be reading the same as your boyfriends.0 -

That could make sense, except, I entered all my datas into both HRM, I would have to check but I am pretty sure my Timex asked me F or M when entering my infos. (same with Polar)
They both read the same thing when doing the same workouts under the same conditions, 2 weeks in a row (1 week with the timex and the other with the Polar) that's why I know for sure the Timex is as accurate as the Polar
Perhaps different models don't have the same options.0 -

From what I can gather, all Timex's are the same.
I also read the manual online and it just said weight and max heart rate along with the zones.
I personally wouldn't trust the Timex.. I used mine once and scrapped it because it told me I burned 580 calories walking on a treadmill for 30 minutes.. Um, no. def not.0 -

If only we could burn 580 calories with only 30 minutes walk, now that would make things easy!!
So, I actually have my watch with me (at work right now) and I did a reset to go back into the config mode, and you are right, the only things I had to enter was my weight, height, age and max HR. However, I think they classify some HRM by gender, when we bought it at the fitness center, they had 2 displays, one for man and one for woman. Now was that only because of how ''feminine'' the watch looks? I dunno O_O
Maybe it wasn't you being unlucky with your Timex but me lucky with mine =P
If it reads same as my BF's polar, I can say safely that it's pretty accurate! One thing I know for sure is that I used to do cardio at the gym and get the HRM reading from the machine itself, now I only take my Timex's reading and am always a couple of hundred calories under. (30 minutes of eliptical shows 675 calories on the machine, HRM shows 400, which makes more sense)
I can understand why you would scrap your HRM if it would tell you 580 cals for a 30 min walk lol!!0
