I don't know why. I eat when I'm not even hungry. I thinks it's out of boredom, I don't think it's emotional.

I found that a really good way to distract myself is to play piano.

Any tips on what you do when you get hungry?

Thanks!

Chew gum, clean, take a walk, do homework...
Cravings generally subside in about 10 minutes. It's hard to break the habit of bored eating, but I know you can do it :D
  • I exercise before putting anything in my mouth... then after I decide whether or not it is worth ruining all the hard work by having the snack :noway:

i sat down and made a list(! i know sad right?) of things to do when i am bored. get that way quite often and i would end up eating also. so here goes a few, wash the car, wash the dogs, take em for a walk, scrapbooking, clean, give myself a pedicure or manicure, call a friend, find somewhere to volunteer, clean out the closet and donate all my big clothes, lol, garden, i wish i could play the piano, make dinner menus for the wk, organize the freezer so i know what to cook for dinner for the wk, laundry, go thru cookbks for dinner ideas, google lower cal/fat recipes, donate blood, play with the dogs, walk on the treadmill while watching a movie that only i want to watch, go thru mfp posts! hope this helps you think of some things you can come up with.oh and i like to paint tshirts also!

wow didnt realize i had so much time on my hands!
  • I drink water, do an exercise dvd (then I have en excuse to eat if I'm still hungry), or if I'm really not in the mood...get on my computer to distract myself. If you are truly are hungry, break the hunger from a healthy snack-almonds or a protein shake for example.
Otherwise, do anything busy! (Especially exercise)

Brush my teeth. Start knitting/crocheting - anything to keep my hands busy.
  • Drink alot of water, and just set yourself mini goals for the day. For instance you can use one that i always use " Not gonna eat from 1pm-2pm, all i'm having is water". That when accomplished can help motivate you and stop you from eating every second , minute and hour of your life. You'll just have something to look forward too.

    Good luck hun.

lol, I made a list too. I love your list, it is much like mine. I'd only add... going up in my sewing room and working on one of my projects, playing my violin, working on one of my knitting projects, doing some documentation for work or cleaning the house.

The list idea sounds good. Put your big household projects on index cards and pull one out if you're bored.

Weigh everything on a food scale, and document every potato chip. Use the mobile app so there's no delay between eating and adding. It discourages mindless foraging.
  • Index cards are a great idea!!!

Raw veggies--celery, carrots, etc., without dip.
  • I recently did a class called Craving Change, I am not sure they would offer it where you are, but if you can, take it.
It deals with all the reasons we eat, helps to define triggers and has been a huge help to me to control cravings and understand why we eat or snack.

I know exactly what you mean. I'm sure I'm a chronic over eater.
Sometimes it feels as though I do it to spite myself.
I eat healthy all day, go to the gym, then after dinner I eat three biscuits, a handful of sweets and a mince pie and ruin it! Every day. Don't know how to stop!
