My son and I go roller skating every Friday night at our local rec centre. It's great fun and a fantastic workout!! The cardio isn't overly strenuous but you can feel it, it's the same with my legs, not overly strenuous but I can feel they've worked. There's a dj on when we go to so it's like an old school roller disco

Any exercise is great for weight loss.... but exercise which you like is even better!
I love rollerblading ( is it the same as roller skating?!), and for me it's the best way to work out, burn calories, enjoy nature and sun and have fun. Nobody says exercise should be torture ;-)

    Enjoy your roller skating!

Ibprefer to inline skate, but depending on your speed you can burn quite a bit.

Roller skating is usually a shoe shape with four wheels and a stopper in the front

Inline skates are usually in a boot shape with 6 wheels in a row.

"Rollerblades" are actually just a brand of inline skates. Commonly miscalled rollerblades, just like tissue is commonly called Kleenex even if it's not Kleenex brand.

Yes for sure. Its healthy fun for sure. Unless you are going to improve times I'd say its definitely LOW impact but its good for keeping in shape.

I did a lot of rollerblading in my teens and despite keeping extra weight I was fit and in shape. Didn't change eat too much until Junior year(was vegetarian) and did start to lose weight when I combined it with walk/jogging program where i built up to running. I was also doing serious weight lifting 2-3 times a week.

Id say its a perfect start or fitness activity overall though. :) I would like to get myself some roller blades maybe put that at the top of my list for when my dad sends me a gift card for Christmas like usual. Should get some for my daughter as I know she'd enjoy that. She wants helmet and knee pads(as well as her bike fixed) so it could be a good way to increase my activity in the new year and spend more time with her too.
  • Absolutely. My daughter used to skate laps at our rink for exercise and lost 60# without changing her diet and while having fun. At our rink, 16 laps equals a mile. Good luck!
