skinny people get cheaper clothing

I work at Shopko, and they only charge extra if it's a 2x or a 20w, and it's only $2 extra. the bigger clothes do require a lot more fabric, though, so it's understandable.0

It may not be completely true but I've noticed in Walmart Target specifically that once you are above 18 for gals and 38 waist for guys they charge more.
I can see the tailoring on people in regular size and I will say this plus sized people require alterations as well we just aren't as likely to take our embarrassing size in to a shop to get it fixed(hemmed, adjusted) so we deal with it or learn to do it ourselves. No cost difference in alterations that I can figure.
That said I've see baby jeans that cost ridiculous prices I'd never spends on my adult sized jeans that obviously uses a TON more fabric. Good thing I'm never caught up in what my labels say. I go for comfort before a brand name.
Oh and I hope the comments on babies being hungry from small foods is a joke because fyi breast size does not factor in milk production. Its also a supply and demand type system and the body naturally makes enough in proportion to how much the baby takes.0 -

FWIW, I'd charge loads more to make baby sized jeans because they'd be massively fiddly, but that's not really relevant for mass produced items.0 -
From what I understand about the fashion industry, a store has to buy a range of sizes from the manufacturer. They can't just stock up on the average sizes. They have to buy everything from size 0 to size 14 if it's not a plus sized item. There are very few people who are size 0, so almost all of those end up on the clearance racks, while the size 14s get snapped up at full price.
I have a friend who is a size 0 and she has quite the clothing collection for cheap.
Anyway, that's why that is.
I'm a short size 12, so I do alter a lot of my clothing, but I do it for free. I have a sewing machine and hemming is really not that hard.
I also know from my sewing experience that if your size is large enough to require extra yardage, it does cost more to make.
In other related news, as I lose weight, I'm spending a lot less on groceries!0 -
I am literally LOL!!! that's too funny.
I get very frustrated by the drastic cost difference in the sizes. Even AT the large clothes stores (Lane Bryant, Catherines, King Size) size 1x tshirt $20, 3x tshirt is $45, 5x is almost $60... And half the time these aren't even made with good sturdy material that can last more than a couple months! It's no wonder larger people have the reputation of being slobs... our clothes are outrageously expensive (limiting the number of items we can afford) and shoddily made which limits the length of time they look decent. PLUS EVERY shirt I've bought always SHRINKS in length after it gets washed (I can't dry my clothes in the dryer because they'd shrink even more and not go below my boobs!!). Just some things to think about when you see very large folks in clothes and think negative thoughts.
This is a huge problem. It is harder to look nice when you have to pay more for clothes. I know some of my bras have paint stains on them. I'm an odd size, and I pay about 2-4 times the amount that a common sized person would wear. Since I don't feel like paying $20-$80 for one new bra, I just keep wearing the stained ones. How did I get paint on my bra you ask? I was painting my house, and spilled it on my shirt. This happened on two different days, so two of my bras are now hideous.
Luckily, those go under the clothes, so it's hard for people to judge me on them, but yes, it is hard to look presentable when you have to put more of your income toward clothing.0 -
heck yeah and a size small gets whatever they want from NYandCo.... ARGH!!0

bigger sizes require more fabric.
Also, depending on the brand could be more or less expensive.
"bigger sizes require more fabric"
This part made me laugh I was buying underwear the other day and thinking, why are thongs so much more then Briefs, there is less fabric.
i know a great way to get super cheap thongs. go to walmart and get the 49 cent spools of ultra thin ribbon and then tie a circle and then tie another strap going between it. walah one spool makes about 10 pair.
Oh that does not sound comfortable at all lol.
ya dont think? you can spend 99 cents and up grade to slightly thicker ribbon that feels like satan.0 -
