Dunno if you live near Target but I got weights up to 8 lbs at like $3 - $5 per weight set.
EDIT: wow that's an INTENSE weight set! Are you already able to life heavy weights? The ones at Target are great because they're cheap and in colors under 8 lbs.0 -
That's an EXCELLENT set for beginners. I actually used to own it and it lasted me months till I joined a gym. Its an amazing deal for full price, and an even better deal on sale!
Yes yes yes. You can do sooo many things with it and you'll get use out of it for a long time. Excellent choice0 -
Hey, I think that's a pretty cool set! Didn't know there were some like that, although, it would bug me to have to keep changing the weights and unscrewing parts and what not.
Target is good. You pretty much pay by the pound. Try going to a place where they sell nothing but workout equipment. I really like those body bars. NOT cheap, but pretty darn cool.0 -

Check this out:
http://www.amazon.com/Cap-Barbell-40-Pound-Dumbbell-Set/dp/B000VCDXNS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1322274339&sr=8-1
It's $20 less, and goes up to 40 lbs. This might be ideal for you! The bar is 5 lbs, and it includes 4 of the 2.5 lb weights and 4 of the 5 lb weights. Hope this helped.0 -
You never want to pay more than $1/lb for weights and that's at the absolute most. Places like Target, etc. tend to push that boundary a bit and you just end up wasting money so you can have rainbow colored weights.
You can get individual plates at Sears as well, I'd recommend a pair each of 2.5lb and 5lb plates so you can advance your lifts in smaller increments if you find the included weights to be a little bit limiting. Just make sure any additional weights you buy are Standard and not Olympic. The bar that comes with that kit is a Standard width and Olympic plates will have a hole that's too big for the bar.
Check out Strong Lifts 5x5 on Google, its a super simple weight program and your set will last you probably close to a year on the program if you grab a couple extras. Yay for girls lifting weights!0 -
You can check at used sport good stores usually can find sets pretty cheap. Another option is a resistance band cheapo and does not take that much time to pull out of the closet. I have a weight set that does not get much use since I do not have rook in my house to leave it out for easy use. Much easier for me to just head into the gym...0

I bought a set at WAlmart for 20 dollars that goes up to 40 lbs. It's a free weight set not a bench.0

should i pick up a bench too? i found one thats the same brand as the weights for $80.. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00615907000P0 -
That's a good beginner set. If money is an issue try Kijiji or Craigslist in your city. You can get tons of weights/equipment for next to nothing. Just a suggestion.0

No problem! I just love to see chicas that aren't afraid of a barbell haha..
Benches are super helpful. I had one for ages till there was a tragic accident involving a gardening tool and it got shredded They don't need to be anything fancy, cheaper you can find the better. It's super important that it's comfy for you to sit, and more importantly, lay on so I'd definitely say take a sit on it and see if it supports you well, if it's wide enough for your shoulders to feel comfortable, and if you have a good amount of room between your shoulders and your hips to move around for different exercises. The one you linked looks like a good one0 -
