Leftovers?

Well, here it is 6pm on Friday after Thanksgiving. Today I have eaten almost one half of an entire pumpkin cheesecake and some chips and dip. Plus lots of diet soda to wash it down. That's it. I feel sick. Why did I do this? Did anyone else do something like this or should I say is anyone else willing to admit they did?

I haven't celebrated Thanksgiving yet because of work... so my Pumpkin Cheesecake is still in the refrigerator, whole. That being said, I have been where you are right now before. Many times. Especially with pumpkin cheesecake.

I have found that if there is pumpkin cheesecake (or, insert any wonderfully tasting bakery treat) in my refrigerator and I am A. Bored, B. Tired, C. Emotional, D. Lazy, E. Hungry, F. Angry, G. Happy, H. In the refrigerator looking for a drink -- I think you might get the idea -- that I will continually eat at that cheesecake or dessert or yummy thing until it is gone... so I have had to do one of two things.

    1. THROW it in the trash (or down the sink in the compactor)
    2. Cut it into manageable serving sizes and freeze it.

The second one is sometimes less of an option because I still KNOW that it is there... and as long as I know it is there, it can be hard to focus on anything else. My mind always drifts right back to those goodies and how wonderful they taste. Then, I hate myself for being so weak. Then I berate myself. Then, oh yes, then I just eat more because it doesn't matter.

It is truly an ugly circular fight. It is something I am trying to work on (see #1 and #2 above).... we'll see how this year goes!

Do not stress yourself. Do something with whatever is left... (see #1 or #2 above).... go to bed, get up in the morning and it is a NEW day. Be good to yourself and allow yourself to forgive yourself and move on. Start good tomorrow.

chalk it up to lesson learned. i learned the hard way a while back and so i made sure my mil took home the rest of the pecan pie, my red light food from yesterday, everything else doesnt really bother me. i am a sweets person. so i ate the pie yesterday because i wanted it. just remember this feeling the next time you think about doing this again. i had too many of those experiences and fortunately am finally figuring that it is not worth it. get up and move around if you can and you will feel better. if you have 7up or ginger ale, that will help also

having said that...i didn't overdo yesterday (my mother in law didn't make enough food) and i made this pumpkin pie for my husband's birthday!
  • I went with this low carb recipe. Not exactly guilt free but do not get the sugar rush compared to the normal version:

  • Sure, we all fall off the wagon, but the great thing about it ....we can get up, brush ourselves off, and start again!!! Hang in there.

Charliebarley--I could have wrote your post. Some great advice.

    annabelle-you are one smart lady.

Trouble is I had noone to take my pumpkin pie, or cheesecake and then my daughter left her fresh strawberry pie--ugh!! I have not been into any of them today--but they are dwelling on my mind. The longer I stay up the worst it is getting. I did however eat a large portion of candied sweet potatoes(a little piece of heaven) and some cornbread dressing for lunch.but, I did manage to stay under my calorie limit. Now, I am going to bed with a book and a bottle of water and not get back up until morning.

had that darn pumpkin cheese cake the night before Thksgv, so I completely understand...I'm so afraid of scavenging the rest of the turkey day feasts that I put most of it in the freezer! :noway:

just the white breast meat and mashed are out for the fam...not my favs, so thank goodness
  • Thanks to all. Hopefully I will remember my sick feeling and not do this again. It feels good to know I am not the only one who has ever done this. ):embarassed:

well after I so snugly stated I had not pigged out on leftovers--around midnight I went berserk and ate pumpkin pie and cheesecake and two helpings of cornbread dressing!! Mercy!!

I am an FOODAHOLIC and I don't need to keep that stuff in the house!! like an alcoholic keeping a bottle of liquor in the house because they didn't want to be wasteful!!

This morning I asked my daughter which of the leftovers she was going to eat??? and threw the rest out!! I don't know anyone who would want a partial cheesecake or strawberry pie. and starving orphans in Africa were not going o get them. They would have all went in me and I don't need them.

I'm going to freeze my leftovers in single sized servings. I'm OK with the one day calorie splurge, especially for my all time favorite food (mac and cheese) but I don't want to turn it into a calorie streak.
