Banana smoothie?

If I take one banana and put it in a blender with ice cubes and sparkling apple cider... Is that a smoothie or will I ruin a banana and some cider? Any low calorie (under 250) banana smoothie recipes out there?

Hahaha --> "Is that a smoothie or will I ruin a banana and some cider?"

Well, whenever I've wanted to make low-cal banana smoothies in the past, I did banana, ice, low-fat vanilla yogurt, and some milk. I have ultra low-cal milk (light soy- 60 cals/cup) so it helps keep things lower. But you could just put less milk, of course!

Here is a recipe I love. It's from Epicure. If you don't use or have epicure, you can omit the summer berry...it still tastes just as good...

    Ingredients
    1 cup (250 ml) milk
1/2 cup (125 ml) fresh or frozen sliced strawberries
    1/2 Banana, chopped
    1/4 cup (60 ml) low-fat plain yogurt
1 tbsp (15 ml) Epicure's Summer Berry Fruit Dip Mix

    Preparation
    Instructions

    1. Blend all ingredients in a blender until smooth and frothy.

    2. Pour into glasses and serve.

    PS...this makes 4 servings.

PPS...I use vanilla yogurt instead of plain.

PPS...I usually add a slice of whole grain toast with 1 TBS margarine.

If you freeze the banana first, you won't need the ice..and will have a much better texture. Unless you have a really good blender that'll get ice super fine, otherwise a frozen banana gives it a perfect milkshake consistancy. Run it under hot water to get the peel off.

Anything you add to that'll make it a decent smoothie. Just milk, or other fruit. If you 'blend' oats first, it'll make a fine powder and you can use that in them. Cocoa, sweetner, mint extract, peanutbutter, yogurt, cottage cheese....pretty much anything works. Just not all at once, and it should be 250 or less. (peanutbutter will add mad calories though)
