Standing

I saw on another post that someone had checked and used calories for standing.
So having spent 5.5 standing and running around at a Christmas Fayre today I thought I'd look.
Firstly only two 'types' listed - fishing and as a musician.
Secondly I looked at four hours and it was something like 900 calories.
Anyone any thoughts on this?

I mean it is scientifically proven that standing burns more calories than sitting does!0

That number sounds way too high. I wouldn't bother logging it. I think its always best to err on the side of caution when logging. Overestimate food and underestimate exercise.0

I never thought of using standing to count standing....I'd much rather not track it and if I am earning some "extra" calories standing one day than sweet but I don't want to thin I can eat back 400 calories from standing0

That's not to say that you didn't burn any calories! But you might be pleasantly surprised on the scales tomorrow if you underestimate0

I wouldn't count standing unless I had limited mobility and standing was actually an effort.
Even though I do spend a good chunk of my day sitting at my desk job, I think I stand up and sit down enough just from doing things like going to the restroom or the copy machine that the caloric burn of "standing" for an extended time would be minimal, if any, because it's something my body is very used to doing already.0 -

I agree with all this0 -
Haha, I have actually logged the fishing one a few times because I was standing for like 6 plus hours prepping for and attending parties at my house. That said, because the numbers were insanely high I think I just logged one or two hours. I think it's valid to log it especially if your activity level is set at sedentary. There is also a category for cooking/food preparation that I could have used as well.0

I agree as well. I'm on my feet all day when I'm at work and my work can be strenuous at times. Yet I'm here needing to lose the weight. Unless standing isn't a normal activity you do, I wouldn't log it.0

If you are going to use something for 4 hours I would suggest, find you BMR, divide by 24 and subtract that from the calories burned. I suggest that because that number over 4 hours will add up.0 -
Thanks for all the responses thus far.
I decided not to log and hope as a poster has written, that I get a surprise on the scales! May have been balanced by the mulled wine and brandy I drank :-)0
