Am i beautiful? I cant see it

Why does our society teach our young girls that they arent beautiful unless they look a certain way? Why cant you be beautiful and have a bmi if 23.5? Why cant you be beautiful and not wear skinny jeans? Why cant you be beautiful and wear what is in season five years ago? Why cant you be beautiful and have freckles? Why cant you be beautiful without always waxing? Why cant you be beautiful and be you? Why do i see a fat girl in the mirror when everyone says shes not fat? Why cant i see me? Who is this ugly girl in the mirror and why is she moving exactly as i move? What is wrong with you people that you dont give our young girls real women then can model after? Why cant you let the girl who wears a size 6 be a top model and not have to be listed as a "plus model"? Why cant you look at inward beauty instead of outward? What happened to you, society?

A lot of good questions to be asked. When did this slow decaying wrapper we live in become more important then the soul within it. If you are beautiful on the outside and a monster on the inside how can you think you are beautiful. I think if you are beautiful on the inside then you are beautiful no matter what the outside is.
had to add a p.s. Freckles are awesome0 -

I feel lucky that I went most of my life without caring about any of this stuff, despite being warned that I was "getting chunky" when I was a size 6. Now I know it was more about my grandmother's insecurity than anything having to do with me... she thinks size 14 is "big as a house" and that men don't have an excuse to be fat because they don't have babies.0

She is beautiful. And probably very photoshopped, like all models in photos.
One of the worst mistakes in trying to make someone feel good is putting someone else down to do it. Things such as "women have curves" and singling out a body type that way doesn't help. The real message should be that being yourself is beautiful. A body in it's natural, healthy shape is better than forcing yourself to be something that you aren't.0 -

WOW...but I think YOU are dead WRONG! Beauty and anything REAL starts within...search Yourself, know You, Love You, Learn to TRUST YOU (your judgment, taste...) THEN YOU will have the COURAGE to befriend the same TYPE of person YOU value. When You do this "My Little Caterpillar" You will become the Butterfly that you know You are, and the other "Voices" will stop because you will only hear other Butterflies!

I think rather than asking questions like that and dwelling on it, just make the choice to feel good about yourself and live your life making other people feel good about themselves too. Confidence is beautiful and that'll shine through no matter the exterior.0

Um. I don't think society makes the rules, we do! And my rules say that even the size 14 girls with a smile on her face and a mustard stain on her shirt is beautiful!0 -

Exactly. That quote would have been better as 'Why does our society say that ONLY women with these body types are beautiful? Why not other body types?'0 -

Yes that's what I was thinking too. To say she is not beautiful just because she's thin would be hypocritical of the OP IMO.0 -
Humans are a mean species. I don't know why we are, but we are. Don't lie to yourselves about that. Remember high school? People are like sharks that smell blood in the water. The prettiest woman in the world will fall prey to the sharks if they smell vulnerability. Make sure your kick me sign isn't showing, that's the most important thing to remember. Everything else is just stylistic.0

I know a model in person, and I can say, to me, she is a lot more beautiful in person than in her modeling photos. I prefer her candid shots.
I think one of the most painful self-inflicted experiences is not being able to feel comfortable in one's own body. People are always not going to accept you for one thing or another. One person may like freckles while another person may not. It's a fact of life. You can only blame society for so much.0 -

Why cant you be beautiful and have freckles?
Me too0 -
that is so true now days and it really sucks0

man, this made me tear up. sigh.0

Not everyone thinks that beauty is external.
So find people who see you and the wonderful qualities that you have.
The external changes and ages, but the beauty within develops and grows even more.0 -
I don't think society, being the people, does.
I think media outlets, advertisers, the fashion industry and businesses do because ultimately they want to sell products and maximise profits. One of the easiest ways of doing this is exploiting insecurity and fear and then offering a solution: buy what I have to offer and you will be accepted and valued. It's utter nonsense of course.
If you can tune out this background "noise", put down the glossy magazines and tear your eyes from the bright, flashy images and really engage and listen to other people you will find that most people find beauty in many different forms and there is no fixed standard.
Don't believe the hype.0 -
This is what I love about dogs.
A Pekingese doesn't care that it's not a Greyhound, and a Greyhound doesn't care that it's not a Poodle, and a Poodle doesn't care that it's not a Dachshund, and a Dachshund doesn't care that it's not a Labrador, and a Lab doesn't care that it's not a mutt, and a mutt is perfectly happy looking however it looks, because, like all other dogs, it looks exactly like it's supposed to look.
It's also what I love about JR Martinez. Burned over 40% of his body, disfigured and missing an ear... and when he smiles, my GOD, is he gorgeous!0 -

Having a BMI of 23.5 excludes you from being beautiful? You can't be beautiful just being you?
I'm sorry and I don't want to be unkind but it seems like you place a lot of emphasis on what others think. I think truly beautiful people are confident and comfortable with themselves. It doesn't matter wether they are male or female, old or young, fat or thin.
I ran into an old friend this past weekend who's 40, weighs about 100 lbs more than she should, and lost her husband a couple of years ago and she's absolutely beautiful. She's made peace with her life, truly believes that her husband is in heaven and has a fantastic smile. She was talking about him and her face absolutely lit up. She is beautiful. One of my best friends is a slightly paunchy middle-aged guy who when he laughs the whole room stops and takes notice. There's such joy and zest for life in his laugh you can't help but be drawn to it. He's beautiful.
The list goes on and on. Yes, I know people who fall into what you're calling beauty and some of them have that inner quality that truly defines beauty (in my opinion) and some of them don't. A person who falls into your definition of beauty can be truly ugly and many people who don't can be stunning. Believing what the media, fashion industry, or whatever tells you is beautiful is a choice you can make but I know what I find beautiful. What about you? Take a long, hard look inside. What do you truly find beautiful?0 -
I think the OP was getting at the fact that for a lot of people there is this constant battle to live up to this "ideal" of beauty when actually beauty comes in infinite forms. Including my freckles!! :P
I am working on a program that will be going into intermediate and high schools which is about beauty in perspective. We will work with the kids through a range of topics like what we perceive to be beautiful, how we learn this, what messages the media gives us, how to be discerning about what we take on board, what the relationship between beauty, health and happiness is, beauty relative to other virtues etc. All the research and input we have had about these topics is truly fascinating, sometimes heart breaking and sometimes heart warming.0 -
What's wrong with being ugly?0

sadly this is so true0
