Chicken Breast Schnitzel Nutrition??

Hello everybody,
this is my first post here in this forum.
First of all, sorry for my English! I am German.... well, my problem is that sometimes I have difficulties to really find the appropriate food to enter into my diary. One example is chicken breast schnitzel. My boyfriend loves it and we eat it at least one a week. His mother prepares it. Well, so when I search now for kinds of "chicken schnitzel" in myfitnesspal it shows my so many different results with huge differences in the amount of calories and proteins for example. How can I ever know which entry comes close to what I really ate?? And now I am even more confused..... Does the amount of calories etc. that I find already include the oil that I use for baking the chicken in the pan or not???:noway: and does the weight refer to the raw (e.g. frozen) chicken or after I did bake it. Because after frying it in the pan the chicken loses at least 20% of its weight....
I hope someone can understand my problem somehow. It's just a small issue. But it makes me feel stupid when I have the feeling that anyways I enter the wrong things in myfitnesspal all the time and therefore finally eat too much
Thank you

I enter my own recipes a lot of the time, just take the brands of ingredients and add them all together and save it since you eat it often. I usually just add raw chicken to my recipes...0

It depends on how it is prepared. You will need to get the recipe from your boyfriend's mother and enter it into a calorie calculator: (MFP has a recipe calculator: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/recipe/calculator). Simply divide the recipe by the number of servings in the recipe. Try to figure out the exact weight of the chicken she's using, too--look at the packages.
You will also need to account for cooking oil or butter, as I assume she fries the schnitzel. The only way to do this is to measure the oil first, cook the recipe, and then measure what is left when the schnitzel is done. It's annoying, but it's the only way you'll get an accurate nutrition profile for any recipe.0 -
Hello and welcome to MFP!
When we cook at home, I enter the information under recipes. This way, I can enter every ingredient I am using, enter the amount of servings, and then save it into my database so that I can come back to it later.
If you're entering a schnitzel, it should work really well.

Hi
First of all can I just say you have no reason to apologise for your English, its fantastic, much better than my German!!!
I agree with the other comment, I would ask for the recipe then enter it into the database...I've used this a couple of times for my own meals and its a great tool.
The whole point of using MFP for me is allowing me to have 'normal' foods, so to me its important for life to carry on as before, its just being aware that when you have something that is high in cals/fat etc you make sure the rest of your day (or week) is as healthy as possible.
By the way, if she does give you the recipe...can I have it? I love schnitzel. It reminds me of my 1st wedding anniversary which we spent in Vienna 9yrs ago!!!

The best way I know is to get a food scale and weigh everything in the recipe, and then break it down into servings. MFP will have most ingredients and you can enter in a recipe here, under your diary, and then "create recipe", I think. I did it with chili.
As far as your question about the calories before cooking the chicken-- yes, you count the calories of the oil you use to cook the chicken. If you have left over oil or fat, you can weigh the left over fat/oil left over in the pan, and weigh it, then subtract those fat/oil calories from your recipe. My food scale goes up to 11 pounds, so I could easily weigh my cooking pan, then weigh it with the excess oil in it, making the leftover oil easier to measure. (Could you use a spray oil, like Pam, in a non-stick skillet or the oven?)
Additionally, when you cook chicken with bones in it, the calorie count goes up, so you'll want to look up calorie counts for either bone-in chicken or boneless chicken.
Good luck! Sounds delicious!0 -
If all else fails...select a current item with the highest calories!0

Thank you all so much for the replies and the advise. I guess it is probably really just simply the best to enter every single ingredient separately or to already create an own recipe on myfitnesspal. That's what I am usually doing when I am not too lazy. But in this case the problem is definitely that I am not the one who prepares the meal. I really hate that! Because it gives me the feeling that I have no control over what I am eating.
I will try to ask my boyfriend's mother about the recipe. I just still don't know how to really do that because I can't admit the real reason for asking (She would think that I am crazy). So, I will probably just show some general interest and tell her that I want to do the Schnitzel myself at home to also improve my cooking skills or whatever and this way I would solve the problem anyways.
So, thanks again for your replies
Have a nice week!0
