How many calories do you burn at the gym?

My cardio workout is 65 minutes on the elliptical targeting a heart rate of 140, which typically burns 450-550 according to the HRM. The HRM gives zombie readings (heart rate=0) when the strap is not freshly laundered. In that case I use 65% of the machine reading which is typically 400-450. If I am injured I use the stationary bike which burns 350-400 in 65 minutes.
For weight training I log 1 minute of strength training from the MFP database for every set of 8-12 for larger muscle groups. I don't log calories for isolation exercises for arms, for example. I log half a minute for a set of shoulder press.0 -
Depends what I am doing. I burn up to 800 at kickboxing classes, 4-500 at Zumba. Typically at the gym I do free weight/strength training so I don't count those calories because its probably about 75-100 but then I do 30 mins of interval training(3.5/7 at 3 incline) and burn about 250.0

I just aim to burn 1000 calories most days I exercise. I may go for 90 minutes, take a break, lift some weights, then do more cardio.
Besides work, I have nothing else to do.0 -
I mostly lift weights...So I assume not much there. I get proud of myself if I do 30 minutes of cardio. Sometimes I'm proud if I do 10. So, in general I don't really burn much. A few hundred.0

250 25 minutes of step aerobics0

I log 165 calories burned for an hour of lifting 4 days a week.0

I tend to burn right around 500, mostly on the treadmill and elliptical. I really need to mix it up.0

I burn around 370 to 400 running and then I do weights but don't count that :-)0

Usually none, I just lift weights 4x a week for ~90 minutes.0

I lift a lot of weights (6 days a week - 3 legs and 3 upper body days/ one rest day), and I am exhausted when I am done. I don't know how many it burns, but on non-leg days, when I am doing the stair mill, I will burn 600 in about 50 minutes. I barely touch the rails to ensure I am maxing my calories expenditure. I would say 800 to 1000 for me per day.0

For those of you that do circuit training and burn 500+, what is your height/weight? I am 18 weeks pregnant and have been doing 50 minute workouts with 5 min of walking stairs with 5-8lb hand weights alternated with free weights and body weight exercises (weighted squats, tricep dips, etc). My HRM says that I burn about 550 each without. Do you think that is accurate?0 -
300-600 when I lap swim and about 250-400 when I do elliptical, I use a polar FT4 so I don't know how accurate the count is.
I try to swim 4-5 days a week, and either rest or do elliptical the other 2-3. I'm 6 months pregnant, so I'm mostly exercising to fight off preeclampsia or other potential issues I'm not really trying to push myself. I was a bit more active before and hope to be much more active after I recover from the baby.
It's insane how much some of you people are able to burn in a day, some days I get winded just putting on my shoes.0 -
I go to the gym 5-7 times a week ( some days twice at the weekend ) i do all sorts, aqua aerobics on a sat morning ( 250 cals roughly according to the HRM ) then in the evening some treadmill/bike/eliptical. Most evenings i do an hour of the cardio stuff, it comes in about 350-400 cals burnt according to my HRM, although the gym equipment over estimates by a good 200 per session!!!
Some days i work a bit harder or carry weights while on the treadmill to help burn the cals quicker and keep my heart rate up.0 -
So much cardio here. Give the treadmill a break and pick up something heavy!
I have no clue how many calories I burn. It doesn't really matter since I use the TDEE method. I lift 4 days per week and have 1 day of cardio, usually 60 minutes of HIIT, cardio kickboxing, etc.
If I had to guess, I'd say maybe 150-200 calories on lifting days and 250-500 on cardio days. Quite a range, so I'd rather not depend on those estimates when determining how much I can eat. Since an HRM won't work for strength training or HIIT, I think TDEE is the safest bet for me.0 -
I always take of the calories i would have burnt anyway if i had been sat on the sofa, for me that is 101 cals an hour. Just so i make sure i am not fooling myself lol!0
