sell outs

I'm sure there are plenty of them out there, but one I recently saw really got my blood boiling... Carmen Elektra as a spokesperson for the HCG Diet. Literally, it immediately made me ask "how in the WORLD did they get her to do THAT?" The responses I received were all "money..." Now, I am no Carmen Elektra or a D celebrity or anyone for that matter, but I know enough about the HCG Diet to know that I would NEVER back the product. There is no amount of money in the world that could ever "convince" me to push that product. Ever. If ever I do become a spokesperson for a product, I will have done my research and tested it out myself before ever promoting anything. There is no quick way, shortcut, fad diet, etc. that is going to help you lose weight, other than the good old natural eating right and working out. Period.

Is there a product or fad diet you've seen pushed that made you question the spokesperson or makers?

Big difference between Carmen Electra, a celebrity/entertainer; and you, a health and fitness fanatic. I'm sure to her, making an HCG commercial is no different than making a cat food commercial.

there was a time, back in her hay days that she too, was into fitness. Regardless if she is or isn't, people look up to celebrities and for some reason, depend on them to know what they are talking about, lol.

Hydroxycut, while yes it'll work anything will work if you do what you need to do even without it lol. That's the thing, like you said, you can't just take a pill or whatever and expect it to work on it's own. Sorry there is no such thing as a magically disappearing fat pill lol. The closes thing I know of is Liposuction and honestly there is no real point in that, if you don't train your body to eat right and work out, the process is pointless for the procedure anyway.

Diet programs don't work. Only 5% of people on these diets succeed and keep off the weight. It's a billion dollar industry and they do not have an interest in you losing weight, only profits.

The only diet that does work have been around for centuries. Eat fresh (no processed foods), exercise, water and sleep!!!!

you'd think they would have picked a celebrity that at least had weight problems in the somewhat recent past.... Carmen Electra is not someone who comes to mind when I think of weight loss.

whatever... strange. cannot imagine what she is thinking... besides a paycheck.

not sure how they did it, camera angles would be my guess, but in the infomercial, she actually looked heavier than I had ever seen her before.

I think Carmen's paycheck are starting to dry up so she is starting to diversify.

I would actually recommend cat food to someone before HCG, and I bet it would be safer.

hahahaha, I thought the SAME exact thing. Hell, there's probably more calories in cat food than allowed in the HCG diet.

t........... Regardless if she is or isn't, people look up to celebrities and for some reason, depend on them to know what they are talking about, lol.

    sadly, this is true.

However Celebs are not "experts", any more so then the average person on the street. Yep they lose weight, but all to often from fad diets, and or current "buzz word" products.

They do not generally pick a product because it is safe, or effective - but rather because it is quick, available, sounds good, and they need to lean up before an event, public appearance or movie. The items generally are recommended to them by their publicist, staff, training person, personal chef or whatever.

And at the end of the day - they are just entertainers. They make their paychecks through entertaining us, in movies, in sales of photos, magazine articles, and product endorsements. They don't always even use the products.

Rarely do they actually research the products, rather they rely on their staff, publicists etc to do the leg work for them. Then they take their word on it.

Its is easy to make anything sound legitimate, safe, healthy etc with enough twisting of the statistics. I know people on it, because their Dr, or a well known trainer recommended it to them. very sad.

Thus the reason the HCG diet is so extremely popular, in spite of the data showing the issues with it.

Most people just need to hear "...my friend toyed it, loved it, and lost XXX pounds in 30 days, did not hurt him/her at all" and they are ready to buy it.....

The one that got me was Anna Nicole Smith for Slim Spa. (or was it TrimSpa ?) The Lady was troubled, and had such a known and documented history of drug and alcohol abuse. Its hard to believe any "diet" product helped her drop weight. Drug abuse can so easily make one loss weight quickly.

I dont' know if I would call it a sell out, and not quite along the same lines as selling diet stuff, but for whatever reason, Kim Cattrall hawking I Can't Believe It's Not Butter is strange to me.

Actually, I woke to a text from someone very close to me this morning. She is struggling to get weight off. Her question was "have you heard of the juice fast?".

My response "No, I haven't. Calories in, calories out is the only way to have weight loss that stays off. Consistent calorie deficit and eating a wide range of foods. And exercise. Truly : ) Hope you have a great day!!!"

Now, I'm heading to the gym....

Jillian Michaels and her weight loss pills did it for me. She pushes diet and exercise for years and then comes out with that???

Yeah ... no thanks and no longer have an ounce of respect for her as a weight loss "expert."

For the first and last time I subjected myself to Dr. Phil. It was on diet and weight loss, so I figured why not?

It was all hawking this program called P.I.N.K., with some product placement for a $500 blender, some really expensive tennis shoes, and some pricey workout clothes thrown in.

I'm not saying this P.I.N.K. program won't work, it's a workout coupled with what is probably a sensible diet, but who needs the price tag that goes with that? We all have internet now, we all have access to either DVDs, game systems with exercise programs, streaming, or various workout shows on cable. No one needs these fancy packaged things anymore.

On top of that, the weight loss numbers were really unrealistic. They promised this one woman that she could lose 50 pounds in 90 days. Then they finally set her up to lose 50 in four months. Okay, right. But when they mentioned the workouts, they talked about twenty minute increments, and finally mentioned a 40 minute workout with rest breaks. How many times every day a person would have to do those workouts to lose that 50 in four months and still be healthy didn't get mentioned.

Added disgust from me because the woman they promised this to only wants to lose the weight so she can marry some guy who berates her constantly about her weight. Yeah. That's something to promote to women. Lose weight so someone will love you. Ick.

That's what I was thinking. Why get a spokesperson that's known for being thin to promote something as drastic has HCG? Someone that had actually used it successfully would seem a better choice.

What about the actresses with gorgeous hair promoting Suave or V05 shampoo, or at home coloring products? Come on, does anyone really believe they use those products on their own hair?

I think they purposely angled the cameras odd and had her wear an unflattering dress, because she appeared heavier in that commercial than ever before.

It's strange to me to. Everytime I watch it , I think to myself with her amazing body , I'm sure she does not use that product in real life.
  • Sensa... you really expect me to believe that you can sprinkle some stuff on your food, not do any extra physical activity, not change your diet and still lose weight? Do I have sucker tattooed on my forehead? As far as celebrity promoting these products... Jillian Michaels and Bob Harper come to mind.

I'm not dissing Suave. I just don't believe that actesses/models who promote the products actually use them. You can't get me to believe Kate Hudson highlights her own hair!

    Ew. I hate this!

I would say that "it's no worse than _____ promoting _________" but HCG is pretty scary, so I think it's worse.
