Harder to work in the summer heat or winter freeze?

I've noticed a bit of a trend when it comes to working out. During the summer (and I live where it's always in the 90s or above during the summer), I hate working out at home or outside. I just can't take the heat or breathe the stale, dry air, so it frusterates me to try to do exercising because in just a few minutes, I'm drowning in my own sweat. Yet, in the middle of winter, I just want to curl up and be lazy. I don't want to go bundle up for outside and try to trudge through feet of snow or defrost my car to get out. Thankfully I've finally joined a gym so it has heat and AC better than my house! But I'm curious...what do other people find more difficult to get themselves motivated to work in - the sweltering summers or the frozen winters? This doesn't apply to those who are lucky to have very mild seasons!

I prefer winter but I live in Florida so I guess my opinion isn't much help. Summer here is almost unbearable though. I hate being outside when it's 90+ but the humidity makes it feel like 110.0

I was born and raised (for the most part) in Southern Indiana...then moved to Jacksonville FL...I HATE the sweltering summers. Feel like I am dying all the time. haha. I LOVE working out in the cold weather (granted here it doesnt snow or anything, it still gets cold). :flowerforyou:
However, this year is slowly draining me of all motivation...it is almost December and it is still 75-80 degrees outside. :explode:0 -
It is harder for me to workout in the winter! Just like you I just want to stay cozy in my bed inder my warm covers and not get up all day if possible. Unfortunately I have to work, but even with three alarms, I will not get up during winter LOL!0

I would LOVE to have the temp still at 75-80 right now. It's 40 here on the warmest days, and it's not even begun to get cold yet. During full-on winter, we're lucky if it hits two digits WITHOUT a negative sign in front of it.0 -
I'm a warm weather type of person. If it drops below 65, all I want to do is sit on the couch with a blanket. 80 degrees and above is when I get motivated.0

I live in SE PA. Summer time found me out really early by 7:00 am at the latest, to avoid the biggest hit of the sun.. Ate a light breakfast and then hit the path.
Winter time now I'm using going out right after work so it's not 'too dark' even though it is dark. I'll work out before I eat dinner.
I like the spring/fall the best, clearly, but would have to prefer winter over summer because you can dress in layers. Summer time, you can only take off so much before getting arrested for indecent exposure or something0 -
Here in Wisconsin, we get hot summers and COLD winters. My theory is you can always add/subtract layers if needed and the important thing to remember is HYDRATE.0

Summers for me = 80s and humid... winters are in the teens and snowy.
I love the summer heat and humidty. That drowning in your own sweat thing... LOVE IT! If I don't need a change of clothes by mile 2 then it's not hot enough!
That said, I do like winter too... at least that short stretch of time after the ground freezes but before there's 2' of snow everywhere. That's PRIME mountain biking time! I do ski too, which kind of requires winter/snow happen, but it's not nearly the workout biking is.0 -
For running, nothing beats the relief that fall temperatures bring... and I can layer up on the super cold days and still be great! Unfortunately, running around naked during the hot, humid, dog days of summer is generally frowned upon... so I'm taking winter over summer, hands down! :laugh:0

That's a tough one! I hate summer and winter, but I'd say it is easier for me to get myself to the gym in the summer because it's easier to walk/drive to the gym when there's no snow and don't have to layer so many clothes and change once you get to the gym. I live in MI for the record.0

Out of the two, I'd pick winter freeze - but I actually prefer it to be somewhere in between. The spring and fall (like now) are the best times of year to be outside for a nice long walk/run/both. It's just cool enough to keep me from overheating and feeling like I need to stop to drink every 5 seconds and the coolness can actually be invigorating. It took a few times this summer to learn that when it's 70 or above, I'm just no good at running (walking's ok). My body overheats in about 20 minutes, I can't breathe and I feel like I'm going to yack.
We've been really lucky this year. Usually it's in the 40's by now but we've had a lot of 50 and even 60 degree days lately. Sure we also got a foot of snow last week but I can take the bad with the good and shoveling is a great workout!! I'm no die-hard...definitely not going to be out running/walking when there's snow on the sidewalks but I'll be outside as much as I can!0 -
I'm actually loving running in cooler weather. I just went for an hour run and it was exhilarating! It's 30 but windy so it feels more like 20 right now, partly sunny. It was great!0

I'm ok running outside with temps anywhere from the low 20s to the mid-to-upper 80s, but any higher or lower and I'm staying inside.
About 50-60F is perfect. Warm enough to wear shorts and a tee, but cool enough to not think "I'm DYING!!!!"
Today was perfect.0 -
Love me some heat. Live in the south with lot of heat and humidity and enjoy running, biking, etc. in the heat, but I hate, hate, hate cold weather. Maybe I sould move to south FL.0

Or Alabama. Most of the year it's 80 or more. They have warnings during the majority of the year about not going out between 11-2 or something like that because it gets over 100 constantly. Then there's one week of "winter" in which it rains and is around 60, then back to the sweat!0 -
Summers~ can do lots in the pool! In air conditioning too. Just no hiking (Arizona is hot, hot, hot)
Winters~ different activities but plentiful! And hiking weather is great from September/October through March/April. Longer if you can take the heat. I prefer not.0 -
I think it should eternally be a good 60-70F with a light breeze and some "warm snow" here and there so one can ski or other winter sports without freezing. Sounds good to me! :laugh:0

I'm with Jackson, if I'm not drenched by mile 2 it's too cold.
That being said. I've ran outside when it was -5, and I've ran outside when it's 113. Both present different challenges, and to some extent that's part of the fun. While I prefer summer, I try not to let the weather dictate my happyness or what I'm trying to accomplish. However, I admit the weather wins sometimes.0
