Macys sizing question

Does anyone know how the sizing goes for this store? Is their plus size selection on the larger size or the smaller end of things?

it's less about Macy's and more about the brands, the labels decide the sizing not the store, I worked at Macy's many moons ago and I want to say plus size starts at 16 for some brands, 18 for others.

The store does not set the size standard, the clothing manufacturer does. I would suggest that you look at and the size quides on their website.

well I know about when sizes start. I was wondering if the sizes ran on the small side. Like a 3x is actually a 2x when at say... walmart a 3x would be like a 4x in real life... lol. Some you swim in others are TIGHT.:grumble:

Seems to be about even with most other stores. I do like their clothes for us more curvy girls. They seem to carry more up to date cool fun things than some other places. Gosh, some of those other stores carry such grandmotherly clothing...

If you're nervous, go to the store and try it on, or try on something of that brand to make sure you're aligned with their sizing.

Well, it sure hasn't been my experience that WalMart brands run big, that's for sure! I need at least a size bigger in WalMart brands than most of Target's brands, and TWO sizes bigger than I need in most traditional department store brands! I would say most brands at Macy's run true-to-size or a bit on the large side, with the higher priced items running larger than the less pricy brands. Most stuff at WalMart runs small.

I think some of their brands run on the larger size. I don't have a Macy's near me, so I have ordered and returned lots from them before.

And this is why Im asking. I thought maybe someone that shops often (I know some of you do... lol) can compare and tell me if they run a little on the looser side or the tighter side. That way Im somewhat informed. What Im looking at is clearanced, so a return is unlikely.

Over the past 10 or so years, clothing manufacturer's have lowered the SIZING NUMBERS from what they were 30 years prior. That is, the better ladies suits in the nicer department stores: a size 4 today would have been a size 7, 8 in years gone by. The size 8 of today would have been the old size 10, etc.

The reason for this: clothing manufacturers need to keep their profit margins at an increasing level. Therefore, they created this new "marketing tool" ... find a way to make the potential retail customers think they are thinner than is the reality. The clothing mfg. community could see that we have become a "fat society" as evidenced by so many obese and overweight younger Americans.

The only way to determine sizing for yourself is to go to your preferred retailer and try on various styles from a variety of manufacturers. It all depends upon the "cut" for that mfg. Whenever I shop for items "off the rack", I try things on that I like and take a lot of time in deciding whether or nor it looks and fits well. My method is to ask the sales clerks for their honest opinion on those 2 factors. When available, I also ask for other shoppers' what they think about it. Other shoppers will usually be more honest to your query than the sales clerks.

Have a load of fun trying on a lot of pretty clothes.

Since it is about the brand, not the store, and you are saying that you cannot return things you buy online, I would suggest not buying it. Or buy it small, so you will shrink into it.

The brand would run the same regardless of the retailer. I know that they carry Eileen Fisher and Jones/JNY which both run on the larger size. Ralph Lauren, which they also carry, runs smaller than these two. Again, the store website is your best source of information. At any store that carries brand labels, the label determines the size model.

My mom is a 3x at Kohls and I would say it's about the same at Macy's if that helps.

I guess we would need to know what brands you are looking at then...and macys will return clearance with a receipt!
